This is just a small "public service announcement" of sorts: I have an e-mail address that I set up specifically for use with Northwest Firearms Forum and just a moment ago I got a notification that a new login had been attempted on that e-mail address from Russia. I have not used that address for anything besides registration / verification for this forum so I don't really know how someone could have come to know about it's existence (it is also not easily guessed).

In any case, just thought I'd give the community a heads-up.

That is kind of crazy. I have a junk email that I use for forums and registering for random things. It's been hacked more times than I can count since 2005. I now have phone accounts for cricket, subscription for all sorts of dating apps and weird job finding sites. They get promptly filed in spam and I change my password. So far nothing serious has become of it.

OK, I'll say it again. Computers suck, the internet sucks. Prove me wrong.
You are able to communicate with this great group of people, not such a suck perhaps? :)

Set up two step authentication on everything.
Dual factor authentication is a powerful defense but it also means you have to protect your phone account like your treasure chest. If they can control your phone account they then have run of the mill with all your 2x protected accounts. I have attached a scam call attempting to get my phone credentials. They didn't know I had an AT&T account, they were just phishing. Be sure your privacy protection service includes your phone numbers as well as your ssn, drivers license, passport, medical and other important info. This one does MyIDCoverDOTcom

I have used Yahoo for mail from the time I tried the net. A good while back they went to two step, for me had to use my phone for any new device. At first it annoyed me. I do get a notification from them at least once ever couple weeks now that someone is trying to log in to one of mine and is it me. So I guess it was worth the initial hassle.
