Yesterday was busy at Greene's Gun Shop / The Hawken Shop.
I set up a small display of Firearms and items relating to the fur trade.
Lots of folks came by and there was both good questions and discussion.
Had a lull at 1.00 ….So lunch was had and I took some pictures.
Sorry not the best of pictures…was in a hurry.
Greene's Gun Shop in Oak Harbor is a excellent gun store…if y'all are ever in the area , it is worth a visit.

Pipe Tomahawks , a knife and two war clubs

A closer view of the two war clubs...and tomahawks.....

The wooden club..is one I made...hand carved from Osage Orange...brass tacks...and trade wool
The stone headed club...again one I made...rawhide wrapped handle...covered with hide / hoof glue.
Both would pass muster for being from the 19th century...or a bit earlier.

The brass headed pipe tomahawk...is old...as in from the 1850's - 1870's
The original iron blade bit insert...was damn near gone when I got it...so made a new iron bit...antiqued that...and inserted.
The handle is also a recreation.

The steel headed tomahawk...is from the 1970's....it has a great feel...and does duty as a 'hawk and pipe.

The third tomahawk is also one I made...and it does duty as a 'Hawk as well.

When my best friend Dave was still alive...we'd put on a big show...between us...we would have about 35 antique firearms...and about four tables of antique or well crafted replica items.
Those days are done...two or three tables is about all a one man show can do or handle...at this guy...

I change out the items from time to time...so who knows what will be there next time.

The bag is very handy...since pants back then...generally didn't have pockets.
It was made by a friend....he beaded it in the Delaware / Shawnee styling...after their removal to the "Indian Territory"...

Both tribes were often seen in the far west...hunting , trapping , as well as sending out war parties...many also acted as scouts and hunters for fur trade companies and the US Army.
One of my favorite people of the time was George Drouillard , he was Metis...Born into the Shawnee Nation.
He was a hunter and interpreter for Lewis and Clark...and a fur trapper afterwards.

Nope...just a well loved..and well used reproduction coffee pot.
I won it a few years ago at rendezvous rifle shoot.
Much if not most of the items I have on display...I use as it was intended to be used for.
So they go camping and hunting with me.

I would say that it is a labor of love....
But I take both pleasure from doing so...as well as a sense of reward.
It is good to share what I have and what knowledge I have with others....so we all can connect with the past.
