Unfortunately it is not just sites, there are nefarious individuals as well and they will take most forms of payment and not deliver. They also use stolen or co-opted id's, real street address etc. etc.. Face to face is better but not foolproof! Even a 'brick and mortar' store can scam you. This is not a new thing, recall the Trojan Horse!

Sigh, guys use a bank issued credit card for anything you buy. Online or standing at a counter. If you get burned the bank just refunds your money. This seems over the top hard for many to grasp for some reason and I can't understand why? Making a list of "scam sights" would take daily updates. The scammers put these up, they get pulled down like whack a mole. The only people who get burned are those who for some reason I still can't understand have to pay some other way than the safe way. Who then cry :s0092:

Also, 'detectives' don't make house calls to pick up stolen property. They'd serve you papers or have you come to the station to talk and turn it in. Sorry for your loss, friend.
Edit: wrong thread, still relevant

The latest scam site I found offers a 15% discount for bitcoin. Don't have bitcoin? No problem! Just click the "Buy Bitcoin" button and buy the bitcoins to exchange for your discount gun!

Sounds like its run by a Prince who is always trying to give me a pile of cash.
I won the lottery twice a couple of years ago. We're almost done with the paperwork. I should have my money any day now. Which is good because my Russian bride will be here next month. Unless another relative of hers gets sick. Hospitals are so expensive over there.

By the way, if you're running Windows, you can block those sites by adding the above text to the end of your hosts file. Normally you'd find that at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts .

What that does is take any calls to those addresses (like say with your web browser) and redirect them to your local machine, which would normally give you a message along the lines of "That website cannot be reached", unless maybe you're developing or hosting websites on your machine, in which case you most likely already know all of this. :)

www.Firearmsbuyers.com

Bought a receiver from them for $145. When it came time to deliver it and it didn't come, I asked what was up. They told me that the shipping company was holding it until the "warehousing and other fees" were paid. I asked how much that was and they said I needed to pay another $100 to free it up for delivery! So I may be stupid once, but not twice!! Feels mighty stupid but I doubt I'm the first.

Never buy anything from this company!

I have another one to add to your list.

www.rainierarm.ch

They are out of Alaska. They ARE NOT Rainier Arms, I spoke with RA - Washington. This scam site says they ony take the Vanilla card or Bitcoin. The BBB site has a list of 41 very unhappy customers who have sent money only to get no service, no shipping and no money back. They have a website with an address, phone number and an email address. They just have no honor. AVOID AVOID AVOID

So. despite my 'knowing better' I ordered something off fleece bay and lo and behold about a week or so later, my card was used to purchase over a thousand dollar "stubhub" item. Fortunately the transaction was rejected, card was blocked and I had to get a new card. Point is, even when you think you know, you really don't and the dice can delude you.

I just happened to check a rarely used CC the first week in March to find a $1790 charge on it. Knew it was not me and immediately called fraud at B of A and cancelled the card. They blocked the charge>>>forward 30 days and I get a letter that they denied my claim and sent me copies of the paperwork.

Well I look at the 'invoice'. The company is a multibillion $$$ petro-chemical company in Houston. I emailed the (BofA never contacted them) Sr VP of Operations with certain info. He responded that they don't even take CCs for billing services......Looked further, the invoice number was #000001 ..... Evidently that wasn't fishy enough to pique a fraud investigator's curiosity......reopened the claim.

End result is NEVER rust a bank to be on your side. No one cares for you like you do!
