Would you recommend a CZ over the Savage? This will probably be the only 17hmr that I buy.
I have enjoyed mine, it is the fancy version. But, honestly the .17 HMR barrel I got for my CZ-455 is more accurate and is easily swapped onto either of the CZ-455 .22's I have. I could make you a heck of a deal on my Savage, if you are interested.

Thanks for the comments. The one I'm looking at is not threaded and I wondered if ultimately I'd like to put a can on it. Can you explain what you mean by "wouldn't expect to keep up w/ them punching paper"? Are those higher end guns more consistent w/ tighter groups? I'm kinda new here...
Tighter group capability would be my assumption. They have some pretty serious money and time spent sorting out some of those higher end rifles.

I have a left handed Savage 93r 17. I shoot it in matches we have at 200 yards.
It is competitive against the other rifles like the CZ and I have won a few times. It much prefers
the CCI 20 grain bullets over other brands like Hornady 17 HMR.

The only thing I did not like about the savages was the mags and the plastic stock. I put both of mine in Boyds Pro Varmint stocks. when I was shooting in high heat areas the stock would get soft and press on the barrel when being shot in a rest. I shoot a lot of squirrels in over 100 deg days. where I live the squirrels are most active on bright sunny days. If I did not live in hot desert conditions, it probably would not matter. DR
