So I just sent money for this upper receiver.. looks to be a 72X series (likely either 727 or RO6520); C marked, A2 upper receiver with M4 feed ramps and a 4 stamped above gas tube hole...

Would it be sacrilege to put a non-colt barrel on this build? :s0140: and to stick it onto the 2nd PSA M16A2 lower that I recently completed? Shown with parts for the upper, rifle length gas tube, non F-marked FSB, A2 handguards, triangle cap, A2 device, sling loop with rivet, jam nut, pins, barrel nut assembly with delta ring, complete BCG, and my 3 other ARs.

Well...
Parts is parts...as that old commercial once said....:D
It is your build...so build it with what you have / want or as you wish.
Andy
Indeed. I'll acquire a standard A2 forward assist, but maybe leave this teardrop one on for now; and I'm not looking to strictly "clone" anything Colt, but wondering if that'll offend the Colt collectors/builders/cloners :s0064:

Edit to quote something often heard in old car culture as well as gun cultures...

"Its only original once". This is a takeoff from something else, probably a RO6520 (Government Carbjne/LE carbine)

It seems to me at least...
With all the interchangeability with AR15 type firearms , one is bound to see all manner of mixing and matching ...
All built to suit a particular shooting need or want.
You are just using a part to fit your need.

As for offending a collector...well...
They might want to thank you..since you now made their clone or 100% correct model of whatever AR15 goodness. they have....
More valuable... :D

Frankenstein the heII out of it.

So: here is my plan for this build.

Rifle length gas, non F-marked FSB, the whole usual A2 look...

But...

Lightweight 5.56 20" A1 profile barrel, JSE Surplus, only 1:9 twist available, 1:7 is backordered

or

18" SPR (not necessarily a light barrel;)
Send assembly to John at Retro Arms work for FSB pinning, headspace and assemble.

Or

Buy 6.5 Grendel bolt, and spend an ungodly amount on a Doublestar 20" HBAR 6.5 Grendel barrel with pinned FSB (likely F-marked)

@Andy54Hawken , that A2 carbine is midlength 16" with lightweight profile barrel :D pretty handy and well balanced :D

These guns were made so that all parts fit and work. When I was a depot armorer if you needed a part you ordered that part and got one. There was no worry with mixing brands. So your mix'n match is probably closer to a real mil-spec than an all numbers matching.

20 inch One in Seven should work really well with 69 grain.

One Ragged Hole.

All. Day. Long.

:)

But you Sold all your SIGs right? Since they don't need an Operator.
I own no SIGs, never have
Too poor :s0140:
other than the aesthetics is there some other difference or benefit to the bullseye forward assist over the teardrop?
Pretty much aesthetics, but also easier to replace if somehow damaged (like that'll happen  ) . Somewhere, someone has an A1 with a big D bullseye forward assist :s0064:
