FYI, you will not find a 2.5" barrel on a 686 thru 686-2. The 686-3 came out in 1988 and the 2.5" barrel was introduced in 1990. The 686-5 (1997) was the first with MIM parts and 686-6 (2001) is the first with the hammer/trigger lock.

Over 2500 were made with 2.5" barrels for Lew Horton beginning in 1984.. The photo I posted is such an example.
