Running Glock Gen 3 Slide on Gen 4 Frame.

I finally found a decent local deal on a Gen 4 Glock 23 ($350 at Tigard Pawn). I want to try and run my AlphaSS Gen 3 G19 Style slide on the G23 frame. They sell adapters like this that plug up the dust cover gap: https://store.heavyarmordivision.com/product-p/sa_gen4.htm

If I run it without the adapter will that cause any operational problems or is it just a cosmetic issue?

Off hand it would be cosmetic, BUT there is a gap that could provide a path for debris. I wonder if that device would work on a large frame (G20/21) slide? Nice to know that item exists.
