My son likes the 50 and 55 gr Hornady V-Max. Second choice would be the Nosler 50 or 55 gr Ballistic Tip or Varmageddon. Whichever shoots better in YOUR rifle.
 
My go-to has always been the 55 grain hornady soft point.

It's worked from coyote size up to deer with no issues.
 
I'm in CA, so Lead free. I use both 36 gr Barnes Varmint Grenades, and 50 gr VG's. both have been deadly on coyotes. The 36 gr have not had an exit hole. DR
I don't want to derail the thread but want to ask if anyone has ever checked your ammo in CA before to verify it doesn't contain the evil leaf substance.

Back on topic, my 22-250 hasn't killed a coyote yet, only used 223's. In those rifles, I've had good success with 52-55 gr V-Max's. The OP didn't mention if they were saving the fur for some reason but I've never had a through and through with those bullets.
