He seemed to live a life of an honorable and caring man. He served in a time where we could respectfully disagree on issues, knowing we all wanted what was best for the country. I had a friend who photographed him for his workworking about 15 years ago and he said he was just as gracious in person. Be at peace with your bride Mr. President.

For many years, I told Mrs. Merkt to set the thermostat down to 68 degrees because that's what President Nixon asked us to do. Long after he was gone. She would say, "But he isn't president anymore." And I would say, "All standing orders are still in effect." In 1977, President Carter dropped it to 65 degrees but I didn't invoke that decree at home.

Many years ago I worked with a guy who grew up in Plains, GA and KNEW the Carter family before Jimmy was the prez.

His dad was contractor who had done work for the Carter family and he had met them - including 'Brother Billy' who he referred to as the 'Village idiot'

I remember him telling me they were all very friendly, and very 'down to earth' and typical 'small town' Southerners.

His last wish in life was only to live long enough to vote for Kamala.

Never heard about that but I DID have a full can of it up till a few years ago when I gave it to a friend of mine who had an interesting historical 'display' on a wall inside his house with some other things unique things, from his 'past'.

For those of us whom fly the American flag, flag etiquette is half staff for 30 days. So half staff thru 1/28/25. Mind that such code is only legally applicable to government buildings/presentations etc.

I try to follow etiquette whenever reasonably feasible at our home. Our flag will be presented to half staff for the timeframe.

I think of such as not only honoring the individual, but also the institution / office.

Folks whom normally fly the American flag, but do not wish to present it at half staff in this or any other case, should simply not present it during said timeframe. IMO.

My first chance to vote was for him, my parents were staunch democrats and guided me to choose him. I didn't know nor care to know anything about politics at that time, I lived in Macon, was in high school, had a PT job, had a hot 68 mustang and just wanted to party.
As governor of Georgia, he also signed my first drivers license in 73, (copied signature I'm sure) that I kept until my last move in 1996
I will say that he was a veteran and a great humanitarian and genuine human being. That is how I will always remember him. Rest In Peace Mr. Carter.

I do respect the office of President and those who've served as President. While I may not like the current President, I am hopeful for the things that Trump want to do, and is planning to do.

I think if Trump manages to pull off half of what he's promised in the next four years, he will go down in history as the GOAT. I am looking forward to seeing how many people he can deport. Remember, Obama had more people deported than Trump did the first time he was President. Only, it wasn't politically incorrect for Obama.

I really hope that people that traffic drugs and women, when caught crossing our border, get an expedited death sentence. This country has gone too soft on crime and too woke. The rest of the world is laughing at us these days.

I really like Trump and his attitude. Don't bubblegum with America.

Why are some people in this thread celebrating his death? Some of them are self professed Christians, which seems against the spirit of faith. It's a bad look and certainly in poor taste.
