one very funny guy from his standup to his shows..

Rip
He was. Set the standard for dry humor. His dead-pan delivery was so nuanced... he could have read the Yellow Pages and made me laugh (for you youngsters, that was part of what we old people used to call a "phone book"). Too bad most of the younger generations weren't exposed to real comedians like Newhart, Carlin, even Cosby's stand-up. Humor without constant f-bombs and references to genitals or demeaning other people.

We'll miss you, Bob.

He was an amazing act and will be missed. LONG ago I saw a special on him showing how he got started. In a job that had him bored he would call a buddy and do the phone humor making it up as he went. As mentioned he was so good at getting huge laughs and it was stuff little kids could watch.

I didn't even know he was still living! I used to love his show and the Darrel brothers! 🤣

His first show was classic too (where he played a dentist with a ditzy assistant, Carol, and Suzanne Pleshette played his wife, the first cougar I was hot for when I was a young lad). But yeah, his second show where he played the innkeeper (Vermont? Maine?) was funny as hell too, as were the Darrels.

His show was a real knock out!
Ah, we see what you did there...

'Tis sad he decided he needed to drug women to have sex with them, but at least we had a lot of years enjoying his comedy shows (not The Cosby Show) when his routines were absolutely hilarious. A couple of his comedy albums are still relevant and still funny today.

Also the source material for one of the best drinking games ever!

We used to listen to his stand up on LP's when I was in school. Teachers would use this as a reward for us behaving. He had the kind of talent that was fine for kids and adults alike. That stand up he did on HBO where is was just a chair and him when his Mom was still alive was another great one. I watched it multiple times and laughed till my sides hurt. It really hurt when it turned out what a dirt bag he was. He had such talent. :(

Loved the last episode of Newhart where he wakes up and telling his wife about his dream. When the lights come on he's in bed with Suzanne Pleshette.

Newhart played a psychologist.
