I posted this last week on a thread about a guy looking for a versatile "step up" do-all gun (that predictably went sideways five different ways), and I realized shortly thereafter that it really belonged here.

The problem for me is the tag. There used to be many more options to hunt lopers but now it requires much more time and money. One of these years I will make it happen!
 
I'm late to the party. Going to suggest basic calibers. For non reloders, and easy to get in a pinch.
243 with proper twist (1:8) 100gr. Pills , 6.5 CM , 270 Win..
Lope is a size of Great Dane?
Even a 223 if you're not trying to shoot 500.
