Ive passed a few over the years. Factory ammo was expensive and the feds wouldnt let me reload for work. Its a caliber on the list now that im just a humble farmer257's aren't easy to come by. I happened to trip across mine and it was a near impulse to buy it.

It gets home in the back of a pickup! It's interesting that these sorts of conversations often revolve around having the correct rig. So then......DON'T FORGET about how the meat gets home? That's WEIGHT too.

Aloha, Mark
I get that! I found the rifle but waited a week until I went to Rickreal gun show and found a few boxes of Winchester Silvertip. Then called Tim and had him hold the rifle for me.Ive passed a few over the years. Factory ammo was expensive and the feds wouldnt let me reload for work. Good to know@Tlock
I blame @orygun for starting my 257 Roberts addiction.
I was at the Rickreal show a couple years back, and he posted on here looking for 257 Roberts ammo, and I happened to have some. He came by the table and picked some up, and we were talking about the cartridge etc. After he left, these two older gentlemen stopped and said they overheard our conversation and proceeded to school me on the fine cartridge, other 25 cal comparison, ballistics etc., quite the encyclopedia they were. That got my interest, and I researched the cartridge the rest of the day. I have a 25-06, but found the Roberts isn't too far off ballistically...and much easier shooting as well, as it's based off the 7x57 case.
I have 3 rifles chambers for it, and load for it obviously for myself, but for the company as well...so there will always be plenty of 257 Roberts ammo in stock...and cheaper than about anything you'll find online.
Good thing you came with 2 kidneysLooking around the internet for a 257 roberts....ive came to the conclusion I will have to sell a kidney to get one in a ruger red butt pad.
Red butt bad means M77 (or possible a Hawkeye). The 77 MKII is a much better gun, but I don't know if it was ever available in 257.Looking around the internet for a 257 roberts....ive came to the conclusion I will have to sell a kidney to get one in a ruger red butt pad.
Thank you. It came to me with the modded barrel and stock. It's kind of a mutt to collectors, but I'm a hunter and a shooter and I wouldn't change a thing on this gun. Well, actually one thing. I swapped the early Redfield rings off of my other Pre-64 because I like the old style of flat ring batter and this one ain't going anywhere. The 30-06 may find itself for sale at some point.
Absolutely! Why be "normal"?If she's a non-conformist, find her a nice .250-3000 Savage.
We need more non-conformists. Make a statement.![]()
The 30-06 is my favorite cartridge. But compared to "small bore" and especially from the bench, it's not a soft recoiling cartridge. This is where stock fit and a good recoil pad are very important. I have two stocks for my rifle. One I can shoot all day. Seriously, I took it to a few Appleseed KD events. The other stock fits well, but the pad offers little cushion. Shooting an Appleseed event would have me leaving with a headache and a bruised shoulder, but for hunting it's a non issue.I think people are underestimating her marksmanship ability. Accomplished smallbore rifle shooters generally can shoot most anything well from multiple positions. I look forward to hearing the range report on how she does with that 30-06.
