The Pardner Pump shotguns were made in China by Hawk Industries. They were branded New England Firearms. Harrington & Richardson, and H&R1871. They were first imported by Marlin after buying H&R/NEF. The lowest serial numbers I've seen have 2004 prefixes. When Remington bought Marlin, they got NEF/H&R along with it. Remington continued importing Pardner Pump shotguns into the 20-teens before they went bankrupt. But it's difficult to tell a cut-off year because once they got to the Z letter for year of production, they kept on going and subsequent years have the same SN prefix. The NZ serial numbers go from 500,000 up into the 900,000's so lots of these were made. Mostly 12 gauge and lots with short barrels. And lots with black plastic stocks.
The Pardner Pump is a knock-off of the Remington 870. I've got a couple of 870's, one a 12, the other a 20. They are a design that I like. When I "discovered" the Pardner Pumps, I liked the price. The quality isn't Remington, but they are functional. The early ones (and a minority of later production) have wooden stocks. They made them in two levels, basic hardwood, and fancy hardwood. My battery of Pardner Pumps consists of five guns. Four 12's and one 20 ga. Two of the 12's are alike, but the others all sport different features. Yes, I know, cheap made in China POS, but I'm just out to have fun with firearms and these are good enough for that.
Okay, as to the repair job. The 20 ga. I bought because it has the deluxe wood youth stock. I wanted it for my grandson to shoot. It was dirt cheap and I bought it online. I had it for a while before shooting it. When I first took it out, it wouldn't eject properly. Diagnosis determined that the ejector was broken. Yes, the Pardner Pump is a Rem. 870 knock-off. But the 20 ga. is a horse of a different color. The Pardner Pump 12 ga. and 20 ga. use the same receiver size. To take up extra space with the smaller 20 ga. bolt, the manufacturers came up with a different design ejector. Which basically is just a spring. Quite unlike the Rem. 870 or the 12 ga. PP. This part is unique to the 20 ga.
For a while, I was able to make a bojack repair to the 20 ga. ejector by grinding a bit off the broken spring, and wedging it into the machine slot with a cut-down copper Lincoln penny. That worked well. But finding a proper replacement spring was a challenge. Numrich didn't have any. After about a year, I finally found one. But no rivet, those are truly gone. This is where a Dremel tool comes in handy. I was able to carefully grind around the edges of the existing rivet enough to remove the broken spring stub. Then with the new ejector ("spring") in place, I peened the old rivet back down. It worked fine. So this ejector is a weak link on the 20 ga. PP.
The same gun developed a problem with the plastic magazine follower. I replaced that with an aftermarket version made out of aluminum, problem solved. This was another problem that hasn't been encountered with the 12's.
I don't think I took pictures of the Lincoln penny temporary repair. Below is the 20 ga. with the new ejector installed. The red arrow points to where the original ejector broke. Held in place by one rivet.

Replacement ejector, a length of spring steel with some cuts and bends. The back end of it simply slides into a hole inside the receiver. There are some Winchester ejectors that look kinda/sorta like this. But they won't interchange.
The earliest (NU, some NV serial number prefixes) have rounded rear receiver tops. Like Rem. 870's they were copied from. Then the manufacturer switched to a hump-back style, which most of them are seen with.
