A liberal group called OUR OREGON has filed a complaint in court against the recall effort against Val Hoyle, saying that state law is being violated by using gun store employees to act as signature gatherers. Since they are gathering signatures while being paid to work at the gun store, they argue that they must legally be considered to be paid signature gatherers. Consequently, they argue that these employees must go through state training and certification before they can work to gather signatures.

In addition, OUR OREGON said that their private investigators that checked these gun stores in Lane County out found that the recall petitions were abandoned many times while employees went off to do their work, not leaving anyone nearby. That would be yet another violation of the law.

The Our Oregon complaint asks that Secretary of State Jeanne Atkins reject any signatures collected by the recall effort after May 1 and block the campaign from collecting any more signatures until recall backers "can establish full compliance with Oregon law."

So a legal attempt is being made to totally derail Hoyle's recall, based on legal technicalities of signature gathering.

Here is a a report about this effort:

Our Oregon is backed financially by the state's public employee unions and other progressive groups.
That's says it all!

Any gun owner who doesn't vote against Governor Brown is............well use your imagination!

The Progressive machine must be stopped somehow. Let it begin with gun owners voting with the 2nd Amendment as a priority over what these Union fat cats are telling everyone to vote.

The well is gonna run dry eventually anyway to those who are members of the State Public Employees Union and the Ponzi scheme that is PERS.

Im surprised it took this long for someone to fight it.

The article said they are checking us out as well. We are set up for paid signature gatherers but dont have any. Our volunteers use the correct form and the shops who are supporting us are just pushing the website where the form for individuals can also be downloaded.

There are no big groups financially supporting any of us directly. The way to help the van hoyle recall is to get people to donate.

The opposition has huge amounts of money to throw at this.

The fact that they're even going after this recall effort (as well as the others), tells me that they are truly concerned. Otherwise, they could simply ignore the recall efforts (since they say they're not worried). This may be a good sign, if not a nasty hiccup in the process. Why waste money and resources fighting grass-roots efforts unless you think they are really a threat?

They are scared. And that is a very good thing.

If they succeed in stopping this real grass roots recall effort on a technicality, it's almost as much of a win as if the recalls worked.

If VH, CR. or SM got recalled it would be a one or two day story then another clone would be quietly appointed and business as usual!

If the Public Employees Unions backed Progressive Liberal group "Our Oregon" succeeds it will be a drawn out affair with hopefully lots of coverage. Maybe it will finally wake people up as to who is really controlling the State and what their real motives are. Power and Money!

A lot of people are fed up with the history of greed and corruption with PERS bankrupting the State.

Add the gun grabbing stuff, the Kits/Hayes tremendous waste of Tax payer dollars and all the corruption, yet he was backed by Progressive groups like "Our Oregon" whole heartedly! And they have the nerve to say "OUR RECALL" is corrupt!!!!!!

If the biased media even tells half the story it should make all the people of Oregon a little ticked off! Not just gun owners.

These Rats need to be flushed out of Salem. After the recall efforts are exhausted put your sights on Kate Brown getting removed from office! Then Any Representative who voted for SB941!

This is what happens when you dot your tee's and cross your eye's. They finally got Al Capone on tax evasion, not being a murderer, extortionist, etc....

Try try again.

I think their effort to call them paid signature gatherers will fall flat, as they are not on the payroll of the recall organization, as well as the argument that the gun store owner can attest that he is volunteering "his/her" time regardless of the time of day. If the gun store is not receiving any "comps" for facitating the petitions being available on "his/her" property, then they aren't paid signature gatherers.

As for leaving the petitions "unattended", unless they have it on video clearly showing a real pontential for fraud, it's hearsay and holds no legal weight whatsoever.

The Val Hoyle recall is going on full steam ahead. They cannot kick out any signatures taken at Gun Runner Arms because I took all of them and I made sure who signed was in her district. If my name is on the bottom of the sign in sheet it's for real.

There's been enough hanky-panky in the past with signature gatherers, I'm glad that there's high scrutiny. We need that on every petition, regardless of subject. This can be won straight-up and above-board.

Well, the troubling thing here is that the new Secretary of State, Jeanne P. Atkins, is an extremely partisan and political person. If one looks at her work record, she has never been elected to any office. She has worked as a Democratic staffer in the Oregon Senate and House for a very long time, and most recently has been working in Senator Merkley's staff since 2009.

Can she be counted on to reasonably follow the law? Or could partisan politics perhaps influence her judgement in ruling on this matter?

She is apparently just a placeholder for the job until the 2016 election. So she is not planning to run for re-election. So whatever she does while in office between now and then, she really does not need to worry about any political fallout for herself.
