Is there a preferred range people like to go to? In Florida some calibers are not allowed like 308 at indoor ranges. Outdoor ranges don't have those requirements

You won''t find any indoor range that goes beyond pistol calibers.

You can google Tri County and Dougles Ridge. They are members only with a number of outdoor rifle ranges.

Look up Outdoor Shooting areas on this site for public land options. Wolf Creek was my home away from home when I was up there.

Also take a look at Trash No Lands on this site. This is member @Cogs baby and a great source for outdoor shooting areas and stewardship information. @Cogs has done more to afford the rest of us a place to go than any other one person anywhere and deserves all the help and support that can be afforded.

Thanks for the mention, @arrowshooter !

Public land places to shoot are being destroyed and closed down due to some of the irresponsible ones who don't follow the rules, trash the place and don't clean up, disregard public safety and seem to have no sportsmanship ethics. Actually, there quite a few of those wild shooters out there. It's a tough nut to crack, but there's always hope we can get through to enough people and cause a change in how we recreate in our great outdoors.

If you decide to shoot on public land, @flskyline82 , hopefully you already know, or will learn, about the common rules for shooting on all public lands. The regs are on the Trash No Land website with links to the rules of several forest agencies in the Northwest. While you're there, browse around the website and pick up on some other info and tips.

Public land shooting is 'dispersed' shooting. Meaning there's no official range, no Range Safety Officers, no fees, no facilities, and no forest agency cleanup crews. As long as it complies with the state or federal rules, (like has a high dirt backstop, not down a road or trail, not across a body of water, able to stop a bullet within your range), it's good to shoot. What you shoot, on public land is important too, (like legal targets that are made for target shooting and no milk jugs, tv's, appliances, tin cans, explosives or household refuse, ext).

Have fun and be safe!

A lot of indoor gun ranges, if you a member, you can shoot shotguns with 00 buckshot, AR15s, and AK47. All of the indoor gun ranges I have been to, no steel or aluminum cased ammo allowed and no bi-metal or LAP rounds allowed since it will mess up the backstops.

Other indoor ranges I have been allow up to .308/7.62x51 to be shot there.
