Rail cover question

I just bought a Ruger SR556 and I see how the Troy Industries rail covers go on but what is the trick for unlocking the little plug that keeps them in place? Acording to Troy's websight, they are easy to remove without tools but I'll be danged if I am not tempted to grab two or three screwdrivers and have a go at em :complain:

If they are the TD-BP-4S they are like the Nights Armament and they may lock in very tight push down on the retainer clipthen push, you may need to tap the edge lightly with a small mallet. Or a downward smack with your
hand. but make sure the retainer clip is down all the way or it may scratch the anodizing.
