People are so worried about being "on a list," that they put themselves "on a list" by documenting their own private property

The skeleton in my closet creeps me out sometimes.
I wish this topic would share some characteristics with your skeleton and just die. Instead the 2A community just keeps it on life support.

I'm not saying disregard the law (if it passes) or whatever. That's each individuals choice. But this panic to prove innocence when a crime hasn't even been committed is mental masturbation at its finest.

Mental. I meant mental! lol.

Problem is that mags don't have serial numbers. How will a photo prove anything, except to show you have a mag of similar appearance? The problem with 114 is that they plan to finance the program with the inflated cost of training courses for a purchase permit. My suggestion is to purchase what guns you think you may want and DO NOT BUY A TRIANING COURSE OR PURCHASE PERMIT! See how long 114 lasts when they can't fund it.

This may be far fetched but here goes…
If you have to prove that you purchased high capacity magazines before a specific date…
Put down a piece of newspaper, clearly showing today's date and lay magazines on top. Take a photo and voila, proof.
Probably a goofy idea full of holes but hey, it's the internet. Goofy ideas abound. And The Dude abides.
Works if all newspapers miraculously disappear the day after they are printed.

Doesn't take too much thinking to know it's intended as a trap. There is no possible way you can mount an adequate affirmative defense to prove an item that is essentially nondescript and indistinguishable from any other like object is in fact that same object that was possessed prior to some arbitrary date.
It becomes an irrefutable presumption of guilt.

JayR, that is one of the most profound comments yet. Exactly what we all know. They are ignoring the "innocent until proven guilty" basis for US Jurisprudence.

The biggest issue is, magazines don't carry serials

No serial numbers.

it is IMPOSSIBLE to prove anything about proof of ownership (i.e., date, or that it is yours) for an unsterilized item.

Problem is that mags don't have serial numbers.
2026 House Bill 29XX - All scary black magazines that hold more than 5 rounds in the state must be serialized....

Don't give em any ideas.

Except I don't have newspapers from 3 years ago, or a time machine to go back and take date stamped pictures of non-serialized, non regulated items that I have owned for decades, to prove that I owned them before a random or retroactive date. Not trying to bust your chops. The fact that we have to try anticipating every conceivable act of stupidity our legislators may think up is already bad enough, if not impossible. It's definitely not a sign we live in a free country that upholds the Constitution anymore.
