Problem With PTR 9KT

So earlier today me and my buddy went shooting and while he was letting off a magazine the mag blew out the bottom of the gun. So naturally I took the gun, I tried to clear the weapon and the bolt was stuck in the closed position. Took quite a bit of force but I was able to release the bolt and eject the spent casing. Any idea what might've caused this? Maybe it was a squib load? Idk but I took the gun apart when I got home and there's zero damage to the bolt head, locking peice, the entire upper is intact, no bullet stuck in the barrel etc,. However now my problem is that my undamaged magazines aren't locking into the gun properly. Smh I'm going to take it into my gunsmith in the morning but I just wanted to see if anybody could shed some light onto this for me. Thanks.

Overpressured round, too much powder or bullet setback into the case from improper crimping or hitting the feed ramp too many times ?
If it was factory ammo, contact them and let them know what happened- take pics of the gun BEFORE you take it to a smith- and see what the ammo manufacturer says before doing anything else.
If they were reloads, then good luck at the smiths....

Good idea, factory rounds from bi mart. I was hoping the gunsmith would give some validity to our theory here, but your saying to contact the manufacturer before?

Bad ammo (overpressure)
Dirty chamber ( overpressure)
Damaged magazine or mag catch or both.

My memory recalls about a yearish ago some guy on youtube bought a new AR and it blew up on him, it wad bad factory ammo... they replaced the gun for him.

Check the bolt gap maybe?

Not sure what it should be for a 9mm, but should be similar to check as a .308. Maybe?

What did the stuck case look like when you took it out? Post pics if you have them. That could tell a lot potentially.

Less helpful but also do you have the round that was in the mag that didn't load (ie the next round)? What does it look like? .

Maybe also check the chamber carefully as to does it look normal/no brass there or other.

As far as mags not loading now, perhaps your magwell is bent a bit now after the event or the mag catch damaged?

The paddle style mag release isn't the stoutest part in the world as it's just sheet metal. It likely bent or broke. What brand ammo?

Yep- if your smith is just going to look at it, then no harm, but you don't want to do anything to the gun that would alter its "after accident state" . But whatever he thinks, the manufacturer will make their own determination anyway.

Hopefully you have the casing, what ever is left of that same ammo and the box that may have manufacturing/ batch numbers on it.

I would ask which factory rounds. I've come across some non standard stuff at BiMart in 308 that my bolt rifle, Ruger American, doesn't like. The bolt drags, won't seat, etc. The AR10 on the same ammo has no problem.

Update: PTR got back to me and they're going to send me a shipping label to send it back to them! Basically if it's repairable we're going to repair it and if it needs to be replaced they're going to send me a new one! Great customer service so far. Hopefully it works as good as new when I get it back. Really don't want them to have to replace it because I had it SBR'd and I'd have to redo my form 1. Fingers crossed.

Good deal. I've heard good things about customer service with PTR. A bit hit and miss on the weapons but they will take care of you. That's only what I've heard. The only ptr guns I have are k51 clone and g3k clone. Both needed 2-3 mags break in and then have been flawless. Even with locking pieces two steps lower than it shipped with (to reduce recoil, not used to mitigate suppressor bolt speed up).

That's does remind me even though like 0.5% chances related. Were you using a non-flow through suppressor at the time? Again very small chance this had an effect but just one of the variables to account for in trying to figure out the cause.

Yknow usually I do shoot suppressed with my huxwrx flow 9k ti but this specific time I was shooting it unsuppressed. So yea I usually only use flow through cans.

You're talking about federated ordinance? Yikes. I bought some 44 mag of that. That woudl be a big kaboom.
