Beware of longe range scams. Local face to face is fine. Buying from established members is fine. Scams are pretty rare here but they do happen and are almost always new members and often long distance (from what I've seen posted by others members anyway).

Unrelated to firearms but common Craigslist scam is where the item is fake and they want you to text them. Then they send you a code and if you click/enter that code they get control of your phone.

Also check gun deals for current new retail prices for anything you see on sale here. I would say most used handguns advertised here are 100-130% of the new retail price. Even with that fact there are many members asking fair prices (for example bolt308's hk mark23 is very fair price), but most are people who either don't know the current retail price or their item is quite overpriced.

OP- In addition to what other have said, if you want to get good responses and solid trusted deals on this forum, I would recommend getting engaged in the forum first- make some posts, have some good dialogue like this. Any time we see a new member here, they are welcomed! As mentioned however, unfortunately there have been a lot of scammers out there, so often times seeing a brand new account with only 1 or two posts, it raises a big red flag, and so many members wont engage or respond to a brand new member, thinking they could be a scammer. Having said that, I have completed sales with several brand new members recently, and they have all turned out fantastic- super new members and glad to have them here!

Know that good communication with established members is in your favor. This forum is lively, friendly and helpful. People answering questions that have been asked normally happens quickly, and in good numbers. Not responding to members, that have addressed your questions in a timely manor, will make you appear to be a flake.

I got you. Certainly not a scammer. Just new to the are. Florida gun trader is a site regularly used back home so I will make sure I stay connected with the group. Thank you for the feedback

Welcome to the forum! Recommend you don't go any further north. The inmates are running the asylum up here in WA!

Regarding sales, the feedback system is your friend. Also, some people are wary of shipping, so don't get bent out of shape when you see folks saying local transactions only. Best of luck!

I certainly have noticed the slow drivers. Change of pace from busy Florida. But I am used to the snow birds. The cotton tops are in no rush ha ha

Something else to watch out for is IF you are SELLING a gun and advertise it on the forum watch out for people who might PM you and try to get you to agree to sell to them WITHOUT an FFL transfer.

A common response is they will offer you your asking price - or more if you will agree to this. They might even say they will drive the entire way and meet with you locally in your area.

It might be someone new, or recently joined and it IS possible it could be someone setting you up for a 'sting'.

Anyway, this has happened to me TWICE and I simply never responded and deleted my ads.
