Hey, I am looking at a used 1911 for a possible later build (non-Colt) and the slide has what appears to be some kind of 'printed' military organizational logo and a name on the slide as a possible awarded gun. ANYWAY it does not appear to be laser etched as it is on the surface but if I do get it I would like to remove it. Anyone have an idea as to how this is applied and if it CAN be easily removed?

I'm guessing what you are looking at is an electro chemical etching mark. They vary in depth but are usually pretty shallow. It will need to be sanded out and the slide refinished. This would be a good time to break some edges or dehorn it a bit and remove any other dings it might have.
