I have been sparse as of late due to a new member of the family:

Little guy was born 6 weeks early and spent a few weeks in the NICU. He had no problems, a healthy 5 lbs, fully developed lungs, but was having problems eating due to being so young. He did tube feeding until he left the hospital, and now goes through bottles like beer kegs. He is gaining weight rapidly and can already lift his head on his own. He is also keeping me up most of the night on bottle duty, wanting to be fed every two or three hours. The wife is taking the day shift trying to get him to nurse better. When he can do that consistently she may swap over to the night shift since that is easier than bottle feeding.

Needless to say all current projects are on hold while parental duties take precedent. I'll get back to them at some point and necro those threads.

In however many years I'll have him pop by this thread for a proper self-introduction, until then enjoy the preview.

Here he is with with mini-me 1.0;

I am planning on being at the McCluskey open house in Eugene this Saturday. If anyone else is planning on being there let me know. I would love to say hi.

Congranulations.

I myself was a six week preemie baby in 1950. I was in an incubator. In later years, I don't know how many times my grandmother told me, "I wouldn't have given a nickel for you when you were born." I don't think I've experienced any ill health issues from having been born too soon.

Father's log, stardate whenever this post is.

I have just been ambush-projectile-vomited on while browsing the Internet and trying to reply to posts. It was quite a large volume and soaked through multiple layers of clothing. Even after having changed I still feel like I need a shower. And now, after having fully vacated the contents of his tummy the little guy is complaining about being hungry again. He seems to be eager to suck down another bottle. For what purpose remains unknown, but I am wary.

Will the madness never end? 10 years on the other one says "no."

I am posting this as a reminder to myself to take revenge when the child is old enough to fully appreciate the magnitude of my retribution. When he asks "but why father?" this log will serve as full and proper justification.

The wife laughed at me. Her retribution will be much more timely. Perhaps I will eat the rest of the ice cream in the freezer.

Congratulations on the new wee one! Oh, my, such a cutie. Here's hoping health issues resolve soon.

And the parenting thing gets easier after diapered butt, projectile launching, age. Well, then there is adolescence zone, but one thing at a time. Words of wisdom from my elderly father, who is a Dah-do to six kiddos, and lots of grandbabies, at the birth of my second: (With a cryptic smile.) "It never really ends. But it gets easier. And more joyful."

Your family is now, most assuredly, in our prayers. Hang in there, amigo. :s0155:

Health issues are all resolved, and they were never very much to worry about to begin with. Really just the feeding issue when he was born. He is eight pounds now, which is a really good growth rate, almost on par with what would be expected if he had stayed in the oven until his due date. He even bucked the odds by not losing more than an ounce after birth, but the tube feeding had a lot to do with that. He would have lost a lot more if he had to feed himself in those first weeks.

In retrospect the wife is glad she only popped out a 5 pounder instead of an 8 or 9 pounder like he would have been.

But the prayers are still appreciated, I am sure they help when dealing with the third broken REM cycle of the night and you are sitting there wondering exactly how much child-throttling is allowable to get two consecutive hours of sleep...

My little dude is 3. I have a list of revengeable offenses I sometimes think I'll collect on. Then, he goes and does something sweet and awesome.

Pro tip; just because you love him does not preclude revenge. One can even argue that it shows you cared enough to remember ;)

That is a good way to look at it! I need to start coming up with some minor pranks to mess with him! But I'll wait a bit. I want his "forever"memory to fully kick in!

Bless! Sadly, I'm currently around 5500 miles from the McCluskey open house, much as I'd have loved to have said hi!

You really need to start thinking about his first gun now, when you have a few minutes free, that is.

Just don't make it an M1911, like MY dad did, back when I was just turned six. I swear I had the imprint of the diamond pattern in the middle of the grip impressed in the palm of my hand for about six months or more.

You are a few weeks late on McCluskey anyway 🤣. It was a good event, got a tour of the shop and got to talk about industry stuff with people who know far more than I. Start making plans now to attend next year ;)

I already have the little guy's first gun sitting in the safe for him. A nice youth sized single shot .22, just like the one his brother has. All things considered I probably also have his second, third and fourth in the safe too, depending on how the brothers want to share the inheritance. They are going to have to develop some pretty eclectic tastes if they want something I do not already have.

I hope your dad at lease single loaded that for you. I am going to let mine develop a bit of control and skill before I hand them the derringer in .45LC. They should know there is a lot of good before the bad in the shooting sports :s0140:

Single load? Gimme a break - I got the full seven rounds and one in the chamber deal. Mind you, it ruined me for life - I've never stopped shooting since that breezy had on the beach in Co. Wicklow, back in the summer of 1952....................

I never asked him where it came from, so he could never ask me to lie for him if it was ever needed.
