Precision rifle

Hi,
I'm torn between settling for a Ruger Precision or investing in a Cadex. The ruger is a good rifle, dont get me wrong, but I can afford more. I've been doing research on Cadex rifles, specifically their R7 action, and I'm liking what I see. I'm just wondering if anybody here has had experience with both rifles, and which they prefer

Consider getting the Ruger, tinkering and then adding a CF barrel from Helix6/JBRC in Vancouver. Great results with their prefit barrels.

I personally own 5 of the JBRC rifles/ Helix6 barrels. I've shot the Precision series rifles in numerous calibers and own 2. Good people building great products, locally too.

If you are willing to pay for a Cadex, why not just build exactly what you want? There are tons of great actions, barrels, and stocks on the market today.

I like the Cadex R7 action, they have a nice selection chassis, and some of their rifles come with bartlein barrels.

You do raise a good point, I'd like to do that at some point, but I'd need to do a lot more research

Cadex are nice, certainly nicer than the ruger.
If you're in that range I'd consider AI's as well.

I'd research customer service, Barrels and parts availablilty.

Accuracy International is just a touch out of the budget

I'm surprised cadex is cheaper than an AI.

Regardless from what I've seen cadex is pretty solid.

I heard some of their military contract rifles were going off uncommanded. It was under very specific circumstances, but I'm not sure if that's been fixed. Plus, the Cadex rifles use AICS magazines

If you don't have money set aside for all the other items to make up a solid shooting platform I would step back from the Cadex and go with something like a Tikka T3x Tac A1 and kit it out properly. You could also go with a Tikka CTR and drop it in a chassis like an MDT. I would rather spend less on a rifle and more on optics when it comes to a precision long range rifle. In the price range your talking I would first set aside budget to put a quality optic on it and for me that would be at minimum a Leupold Mark 5HD and from there a Nightforce ATACR or Kahles or ZCO. To round things out I would put an excellent bipod on the rifle such as an Atlas or MDT CKYE-POD, grab a great shooting bag like the Armageddon Gear Shemdium or Wiebad Fortune Cookie.

Most modern rifles are going to shoot .5 MOA to 1 MOA from the factory with quality ammo. So your greatest improvement to accuracy and consistency will be your complete shooting platform. Heck, I see guys shooting lights out with Ruger American's in a chassis, taking the money they saved on the rifle and putting that into a quality optic and associated kit. Then when they are ready to upgrade they already have all the quality kit for their next rifle.

Yeah, I already have a Steiner T6xi for it, but you have a good point with other accessories
