I figure WW1, but I'm sure there's better info out there. Please help us figure it out.

It is similar to M1905 but no Springfield engraving, and the scabbard is really unusual. To me, it seems to predate the M1905 and does look like one though shorter, but not one of the cut off trimmed ones from WWII.

M1917 was my second thought.
 
I just broke out the magnifying glass, the number is either 1897 or 1397. I don't want to mess with it to clean it, so I'll pass on the information.
