Bought a used Canik TP-9 SF Elite 9mm with a 4.2" BBL recently. Sights appear to be factory Warren, but this thing shoots high. Like several inches high at 30 feet.

Most pistols I've bought/shot are right on the money concerning elevation and windage. I'd prefer the impact to be right on top of the front sight when sights are lined up on target.

1) Is there some kind of chart that shows different height of front and or rear sights and the impact it has on shot placement?

2) Do you know of a good resource for reasonably priced replacement sights? Doesn't have to be "go to war" indestructible, just something to get shots back on target reliably. If possible I'd just replace one of the sights to get impact where I want it, though that might be difficult since this set is a "U-notch rear" and thin fiber optic front sight.

Thanks for your thoughts on this in advance.

And yeah, I'll probably call Warren sights or email them as well.

Dizzy.

Maybe that's why the guy sold it.:s0140:

Another vote for Dawson, I have them on multiple handguns...
I prefer a front fiber optic and blacked-out rear sight but they offer other variations. Go to their website and read about "Perfect Impact" sight policy.

Sounds like you have a pistol set up for "6:00 Hold" and you're using it in "Center Hold".
The sight calculators at Ameriglo and/or Dawson should help you get the sights you need.

Once you work the math, you should be able to change out just the front sight.

Negative. I'm using a 6-o'clock hold and it's still high. Off the paper plate at 50 feet and a few inches high at 30 feet.

And thank you for the information. Was hoping to just swap out one sight if at all possible.

5.5" high @ 50'
3.5" high @ 30'

What the sight picture looks like when I press the trigger.

And no I'm not a damned artist. :D

Your Post #1 description sounded like center hold to me.
Oh well.
With one of my 6:00 pistols, I would be holding the "level line" (imaginary line across the leveled sights) near the bottom of the plate.
Is that where you're holding ?

Probably my bad for the description. On a bigger target it would probably be considered center hold but I hold at the bottom of the black marked bullseye. Therefore I want the impact to be right on top of my sight which would put it in the middle of the black bullseye. At 30 and 50' that black outline is about the same size in width as my front sight.

I don't hold at the bottom of the plate, but right at the bottom of the black circle exactly as drawn on the last couple of plates, which, are the very plates I shot at and the exact sight picture I held.

Hope this makes it less muddy.

So 6-o'clock hold on the black bullseye which would equate to almost center hold on the bigger paper plate.

If that makes sense.

I once had a 1911 that shot the same. I determined to not change the sights for once. Ended with a perfect POI/POA at 50' with a custom load for that particular pistol. On the other hand, I've installed Dawson on a number of pistols. Never yet was disappointed with their remedy.

I mused about leaving it alone and using it on the silhouette range at some of the further targets out there. But no. It bugs me too much :s0114:

Just ordered a front sight from them! The method for calculating the correct height seemed pretty fool proof as long as you measured correctly and precisely! (Hopefully) lol.

Thanks again!
I've purchased dozens of sights from them over the years and haven't had a single issue. The quality has always been top tier.
