Any Paper and Pulp or Bioresource companies in WA state looking for interns? I'm currently a junior studying as a Bioresource science and engineering major at University of Washington Seattle and am trying to find an internship in my field. If anyone has any leads, please contact me jeffreyhsu81@gmailDOTcom

If you have any aversion to nasty smells I think you need to look at a different line of work. I worked 8 months next to the sludge ponds in the paper mill at St Helen's building a new chip delivery system and it was the nastiest smelling stuff in the world.

I have crawled the pipe racks at Camas paper mill with black liquor dripping on you.
Good times.:(Camas mill has shut down another paper machine. I think they
only have one line running now used to be over a dozen. They just did a massive
layoff. Pulp and paper industry is dying. I would look at other industries for a career.
An engineering degree will get you a good paying job. Good luck young man you will find your niche.

I think the two closest paper mills to you would be over in Jefferson and Clallam Counties. I've worked at the Port Townsend kraft pulp and paper mill and also up at the Port Angeles telephone book paper mill. I'd contact the HR departments at either/both and tell them what you're offering and what specifically your needs are. I worked on both mill's recycling components when it became evident that the industry could no longer count on what was once a good, local, steady supply of wood chips. Management at both mills were good to work with because they're both in small, close-knit communities so most everyone knows everyone. Good luck.

I was a software engineering intern at the PA mill back when it was Diashowa, writing a neural network program for controlling bleaching of the pulp. Last week, I saw some other intern positions in a carbon fiber recycling technology program they (POPA) are developing. Let me know if you want more details.

Good times indeed....even if you survived the rotating shift work, the years of exposure to the black liquor, formaldehyde, chlorine, sulfur burners, lime, PCB's, fires, accidents, antiquated electrical, mechanical and hydraulic gear there was always the corporate buyouts, international market downturns and layoffs to contend with. Agree 100%, there's lots better industries to get into these days.

Lol paperwork is going going almost gone there will be no need for paper in the future we already depend on are phones to do almost everything it's only a matter of time before we do not need paper at all and with all the push for recycling soon we won't even need cardboard boxes or anything like that it will all be plastic or something like that and the huggers will be happy antill they realize they have nothing to cry about anymore
