So Ive been trying to follow on this 114 and all the nonsense its coming with and I am still unclear and google gets me so many answers Im hoping someone here can help!
I purchased an SBR online and got it shipped to my local shop and it was handed over with no issue. I want to put a rifle stock on it and at no point in time was I told by the shop I needed to register it but from
a google search its telling me I do need to register it but wont pay a fee? Please help me out and sorry if this is a stupid question.

Trying to understand what you mean:
Was it simply a pistol with a with/without brace? Those wouldn't be SBR's.

However by you adding a stock that does turn it into an SBR.
You can totally own a pistol variant of anything and brace it, hence why the shop wasn't under any instruction to inform an end user of NFA laws. Now had you announced your intentions to them, they most certainly would have said something. The shop though doesn't know your intentions with the firearm, only you would.

And by you adding a stock without previously registering it with the BATF that would be a violation of NFA laws.

I think the non fee thing you are mentioning was that odd window where they (the atf) wanted people to register braced pistols as SBR/AOW's.. but that's not Oregon.. that was nationally. And that was a whole thing in and of itself.
Oregon law (to my knowledge) is not in any way passing laws that help us avoid registering or paying fees through M114.

This has nothing to do with m114 other than make sure you have enough mags now cuz you probably won't be able to buy them later.

If you bought a pistol (not a sbr) and want to put a stock on it (which turns it into a sbr) you need to register it with ATF and pay a $200 fee before installing the stock. After January 1 the fee goes away (due to the big beautiful bill change) and you can register it as a SBR for free. Legally you can't put a stock on it until it's approved by ATF.

However you can put a brace on it right now with no ATF registration or fee.

Wait you bought an SBR? I.E less than 16 inch barrel with a Stock not a brace and they didn't require that your stamp was approved before transferring you the firearm? Interesting. Some braces like the Magpul BTR are identical to stocks but are considered braces

I would get a stock, then after Jan 1 register it with NFA minus the fee. Then install the stock. If you buy a stock now, and don't register it, it is still legal to own as long as you don't install it on a pistol.

Also, get your mags now.

It has a Magpul BTR "stock" on it so I apologize for my ignorance on the issue as looking at it online it is classified as a pistol. But the brace is horrible! thus the reason I wanted to throw the stock on it. So I will buy the stock i want and wait to install it when the fee goes away. Got plenty of mags, but guess ill pick some more up since this stupid bill is passing.
Thank you all for your help I just needed to make sure I was clear on the laws and changes. Much appreciated!

Have you seen the pistol version of 15-22? If you could figure out a way to mount a folding brace it would be a nice small package. Especially with a binary trigger. But for $100 more the Stribog is much nicer and more accurate gun imo (I have 15-22 Rolfe and the Stribog). Also the g36 rifle is about $50 more. Mags are very high quality and 30 rounders are $12 from beretta. Just throwing out some options that I've had good luck with fyi. Stribog and g36 are my favorite 22s.
Stribog $544 (without brace).

G36 $511 (note that I added the rail with integral scope and the bipod, total cost for those two items was $71). Comes with a lower profile top rail. Stock folds which makes it a real handy package.
Mags for g36 or beretta arx 160 or colt m4 or hammerli h1 or hk 416:

That HK has been calling my name! Closet thing to a G36 without spending $3.5+. My only question is does everything function on the gun? As with the HK416 22lr the bolt release is cosmetic it's not actually mechanical. You have to release the bolt handle to send it home was the main reason why I sold mine I want to actually train with every control functioning the same way as its bigger brother.

I have the sl8 (civilian version of g36) and the g36 .22 function is the same. Bolt is on top and locks to either side if you push it in. The .22 is lighter than 5.56 g36. 5.56 g36 furniture is fully interchangeable with the 22 thats how close it is. Of course operating system etc is different.

SL8. I think I might put original rail from the g36 .22 on it to lower scope height.

I just looked at it side by side and only difference is sl8 has paddle mag release whereas the .22 has an AR style mag release on the left side of the mag well. Both have same bolt hold open.

Mag release shown on page 15 here

New to Oregon,
What is the M114 about?
ballot initiative that banned standard capacity magazines and implemented training requirements, permit to purchase, and increased fees to buy a gun and get a CCW, it has yet to be implemented because of injunctions.

You are still going to have to serialize the lower & do the approval request with the ATF. Full fingerprints, photo etc etc

AND wait for your stamp.

BEFORE putting a stick on it.

The only change occurring in January will be no tax.

Still requires hoops, albeit easier today than years back…

Edit, adding: violating NFA rules laws & regulations can result in EXTREME penalties!!

You could just try a different brace, such as the SBA3 or SBA4, they're way better than the magpul.
Used ones pop up in the classifieds fairly regularly, new ones are $69 from PA:

Is the receiver and the mags on the G36 metal?
