OR to ID hunting help

New to Idaho from Oregon. Just couldn't do the west side weather and politics anymore.
I'm Not a neweb to hunting just new to Idaho, First year for everything in the gem state. Hunted Oregon since mid 90s and burned up all my points last year besides speed goats.

With weather warming up, snow melting, I want to get outside and start putting some miles on the boots to learn the new areas/state. Preferably With in 2-4 hour drive. I am hoping some of you could help and point me in right direction. NOT your honey hole…. Maybe more a
General area. Like a certain summit or campground or whatever .
Looking for Help on all big game species hunting and fishing and possibly shed hunting.
Also have a side by side, not trail model, that I can bring along.
Any and all help is much appreciated.

Pretty much same rules apply as anywhere else you've been hunting for the last 30 years for deer and elk. Water, burns, meadows, etc. Elk like benches on a steep mountain the same there as Oregon and animals still use saddles to go up and over (broad generalizations). Mule deer are wayyy easier to locate than blacktails (ime). Bucks will be in nasty deep canyons, slides, by themselves or a very small group until you get close to the rut. Use your glass. Then glass some more. When you think you've seen it all, glass some more.

I'm like a fish out of water myself here in western Oregon coming from western dakotas/eastern MT. But it's a brand new puzzle to figure out and that lends itself to another level of satisfaction figuring it out. I have zero doubt you will figure it out with time in mountains and some effort. Have fun exploring and enjoy the process.

Yes Saw that the other day.. I drew 39A and went last weekend for spring bear.. still some snow on the ground so couldn't get too deep into the woods without running into guys at snow level..
Going back out on Tuesday and bringing a shotgun for Turkey opener

42 is definitely tough for deer. I've elk hunted it a few times. Saw good bucks but nothing like it used to be. There's possibility for good deer but mainly out in the desert floor not up on juniper.

It's late season hunt so they should be in or close to rut.

The biggest bucks we have seen killed have come from the desert near Chapin table and near the Sierra del Rio ranch. If u want more detailed info I'm happy to help. We have spent a lot of time in the unit. Just reach out via pm.
