Pick this up from a window of a Colt collector selling his guns.38 special caliber.Would this be safe to shoot with modern ammo? What years were these made?Paid 350.00 is what she was asking.Thought it was worth that.Nothing rare just an old Colt revolver.

Lovely Colt for sure.
Yes...you can shoot "modern" .38 Special from this revolver.
( No + P loads however )
These were made from around 1908 to around 1930 or thereabouts.

Around 1930....this model became known as the Colt Official Police Revolver.

Owned one once...was a fine shooting gun for damn sure.

I'll bet if you looked up similar ones sold you would see the prices a LOT more - maybe close to double what you paid!

It appears to be in great shape and if all is well blaze away with STANDARD .38 Special only!

A friend of mine has one that looks very similar.

The grips might be replacements....many were originally made of hard rubber and had a different checkering design.
Of course ...this did change throughout the time line of the manufacture of this Colt Model.

I looked up the ser no 348256,this revolver was made in 1912,wow!That makes it 114 years old, yeah grips are a replacement maybe in the 30s.I had no idea this revolver was that old, cool! The guy was a Colt collector so makes sense. The latest pattern date on barrel is 1905.

Pretty bad im dont even know what i have in the safes....
That happens the more guns you get and the more candles on your cake. I was missing a gun the other day but I didn't know which one. It turns out after looking quite a bit I thought I owned one more gun than I do. The next time I count I'll take my boots off!

Guns certainly age better than people do! I'd definitely snatch one like that up if it were offered to me for that price. That's a great find!

I would be happy shooting that with standard pressure ammo on a regular basis. it was made for it. and I would be very happy to have bought it at that price! Congrats! DR
