great - as it is people with out car insurance often flee the scene - so now people involved in legitimate defense shootings will flee the scene after patrolling up their brass and replace the barrel on their gun... guess its time to get a replacement barrel or two for each of my guns just in case... :s0112:

They can make proposals till the cows come home. That law is uninforcable. Insurance needs a registry and registry = massive civil unrest.

If it makes you feel better the 112/113th congress has proven to be VERY good at not getting anything done. :s0114:

Unfortunately, according to the press, the concept of universal background checks seems to be acceptable to many. The only way to enforce universal background checks is for law abding citizens to register firearms so there are records.

Please don't become complacent.

The NRA itself offers "excess personal liability" insurance of up to $250,000 for hunters and for shooters at competitions or private ranges, according to its website.

"Because accidents do happen no matter how careful you are," the website says.

A Maryland proposal would mandate that anyone possessing a firearm have liability insurance of at least $250,000. It requires anyone selling, renting out or transferring a gun to verify that the person getting it has liability insurance.

Do they really want to create 70 or 80 million new NRA members? Now THAT would be a gun lobby!

I most certainly am not becoming complacent as time goes by, thats what the grabbers want. If a universal background check would be made into law, the only way of enforcing it without a nat. reg. would be at the point of sale. Theyd have to catch the lawbreakers red handed. Otherwise one of two things would happen. People would have to voluntarily registry or become felons after X date or they will simply confiscate FFL records (if the DHS isnt already, and they probably are) and pay midnight visits. The MSM might tote the fact that the people support background checks, but bubblegum will hit the fan come time to register.
