I just picked up the stainless in 5". Love the blend between 4 1/4 and 6". Shoots great.
Any trouble finding a suitable holster for it? I've read that can be an issue with the 5"
I placed an order for a gloss blue 4 1/4" yesterday but, have not heard from the seller yet.

Buy a real Python.

If you're poor, like the guy dispensing free advice here, and you are interested in a true shooter, buy a Trooper MKIII. Same guts, barrel, less hand-work.

Grab one quick. They're goin' up in price faster than a Ruger Security Six.

I have the trooper and a security six and they are both fine firearms!

Security Six beat the Python and the Smith in Ransom Rest accuracy tests by Shooting Times in 1974.

"Cheap-Azz" revolver designed by one brain from the ground-up (Bill Ruger) beat the best. In a stronger gun.

I have Rugers and Smith & Wessons, right now I'm after a new gen Colt Python.

Picking up a S&W Saturday that will I fold into my carry rotation. Super pumped about my first revolver. This is coming from a striker fired guy for the past 2 decades.

I know all this, because I bought a Security Six when I was in Boot Camp in 1974, I saw an article in a magazine I bought at the BX.

But the Python Mystique still captivated me. When I reached duty station, a buddy bought a Trooper. I shot it and was amazed at the accuracy. .

Then I bought a Security Six. I don't think we ever convinced each other of one better than the other. I killed deer with the Ruger. Wendell shot stumps and targets with his Trooper

I still own my Security Six, and it went to Alaska five times. I felt warm and comfortable when descending into a willow thicket (even with a bow and arrow) that might hold a sleeping Grizzly when I had the Ruger on my side. I finished a Caribou at 75 yards (wounded by a partner) with one shot.

But I killed an Antelope at 110 yards with my .357 8" scope-sighted brushed-nickel Trooper. I bought a blued one in the box (just like Wendell's 6") more recently. They turn the .357 into a target cartridge. I'm sure the old Pythons (if not shot to hell), with their better fitting and finishing would do even better.

Post Script: A gun buddy of better means than myself, has two "new" Pythons, stainless, 6 and 4 inch, owned them for less than a year, wants out of them.

I cannot say why. (Witness ads on NWFA for others showing up now.)

But he's shot the old Troopers....and the Security Six..

Ya....I hate those stupid things. I have 2 that need it also, my other dz Smiths are pre lock
Pre locks come with a premium. They're making them without the lock now but I've heard/read that S&W QC is super hit and miss right now. So I'd rather get an older model that has the lock but is a quality build.

I congratulate you on your SW purchase.

I bought a 686 6" and a Model 60 3" .38 from the same guy. Practically new guns.

I KNEW that modern 686 with its under-rib and all would out-shoot my working-man's Ruger Security Six from 40 years ago.

The model 60 is still here. So's the Ruger.

Okay, you convinced me. I am going to give up my search for a nasty Colt Python and instead focus my efforts on locating a Ruger Security Six.
