What did you build onto your AR? I built my own from scratch too. All told with optics and attachments was still cheaper than buying a complete AR from a gunshop

jd machine lower, bushmaster flat top upper with eoteh 517 and a thordson customs stock.

not bad. I have a New Frontier composite lower, a Mercer Shooting Sports free float quad rail upper, PSA lower build kit with MOE stock and grip. As far as attachments I put a MOE ergonomic grip and Harris bipod under the barrel and a TacTech Goliath 4x with attached backup irons. All told cost me about 700ish
