I don't know guys. There is no denying there are plenty of morons running around. But what's to stop them from carrying concealed without a license? There are states where free folks don't have to have a permit to carry. I like that idea. I would never vote to put more restrictions on law abiding folks.

Simply agreeing on an in person class training. I think it's valuable-didn't suggest it should be mandatory. True, there are lot's of places with no restrictions. I'd simply prefer to be mentally armed with better risk aversion/analysis/liability and situational training.

That was my interpretation of what they call an "Appointment". Bad terminology on my part. It was an appointment to hand over the completed application, a certificate of training, and present identification. The remainder was simply completing fingerprints, photograph and self addressing an envelope for them to send it to me.

So we should have required speech class before exercising your first amendment? What other rights would you like to make privileges?

The class requirements to pass the range day were:
1) Properly load and unload your pistol.
2) Properly shoot your pistol and hit the broad side of a barn.
3) The hardest part was you had to go the entire day without pointing your loaded or unloaded gun at anyone else in the class. It was stressed multiple times during the class room day and range day that accidentally pointing a pistol at any one was an immediate fail.

At the end of range day a student could elect put their pistols up at the firing line and let other students try their pistols (the instructor supervised the students firing other students pistols). This was great for the students that weren't sure if they could handle the power of say a 9mm.

Not a lot to ask in my opinion. After 40 years there are still habits and information that I use today. To me 2 days doesn't seem like that big of an ask for a CHL. There were plenty of women in the class and at least one 22lr. No one was disparaged for their pistol choices.

It is like taking a hunters safety class to get a hunting license.

All of the things you list are certainly reasonable to expect from someone I would choose to go shooting or hunting with. I certainly would encourage everyone who has or intends to acquire a firearm to pursue some education on safe gun handling, whether they have an interest in getting their CHL or not. I wouldn't equate it with taking a hunter safety class though. Too many politicians already equate what is protected by the Second Amendment with what is necessary for hunting.

I do get where you're coming from. While taking a CHL class with a friend, he made a remark based on his hearing and observations of others in the class, "Now, I REALLY think I need to be carrying a gun." There were definitely a few characters who, if I were king, they wouldn't have been allowed to have a firearm, let alone a CHL. Fortunately, we are not a country of kings or queens. I'll admit, my opinions on these types of topics have evolved from some that were much more closely aligned with yours as the politicians in this once great state pile on their additional infringements. They have overused and worn out the term "reasonable".
