I recently picked up a Benelli M3 LE and I'm looking for some dot/optic recommendations. I have good exxperience with RMRs, DPPs and Burris FF3. What I don't have any experience with is Holosun, Vortex, Sig etc.

I know I've clowned on Holosun in the past but I keep hearing good things so it's time to stop joking and put them into the possible list. I don't need to spend a ton of money on it either. I'm not an operator or a weekend tough guy just someone who likes guns, appreciates quality firearms and knows how to shoot. I've done one shotgun training class and could really use another. I run optics on my pistol and my AR as well. RMR on the pistols and an Aimpoint ACO on my main AR for reference. Thanks everyone. :)

Oh and shamelessly if anyone has a good option they are selling hit me up. No magnifiers please.

I like the Vortex on my Ruger hunter but it is my only optic so I don't really have anything to compare it to.

It's small and you can change the battery without taking it off the gun but there might be certain dots people gravitate towards with the recoil they produce.

Congrats on the score ;)

@Joe13 Thanks amigo. I definitely like top battery access. I just changed the coins on my RMRs and I don't like having to remove them.

Basically bought zero gun stuff for about 3 years and just saved cash where I could instead. Was able to grab the M3 and a Staccato P before 114 makes a mess of things.

Holosun 403c-GR and use the low mount. 2 moa green dot with a solar panel and battery backup and shake-awake.
Do they make it with the dot and circle reticle? I should have mentioned I'm planning on #4 high brass and thinking a 30 yard zero? Then again with slugs......

I appreciate the recommendation. I'll definitely add it to my list. :)

Aimpoint H-2/T-2 Micro or P-2 ACRO would be my choice. Forgot open emitters like the RMR and F China, F' Holosun but that's just me. If I ever break down and buy a Holosun or the like it'll be used so I don't have to give the slobs any more money than they already have.

You think the standard mount would be the right one for the M3? I'm assuming yes since mine already has a rail.
You'll want whatever optic you wind up with as low as possible. Think of how you would hold the gun if you were using iron sights or just the bead and try to mimic that with a dot sight. Cheek weld is just as important with a dot sighted shotgun as it is with a dot sighted rifle if you're after any kind of accuracy.

Thank you, that's what I thought. :)

So how do you like that M3? I was looking at those but wound up going with an M2 Field, then did a lil' tweakin' to it.
I'm hoping to get out in the next couple weekends to shoot it. So far I really like the ergos and the weight. I'll mainly run it on auto but it's nice to have the pump for basically unlimited ammo options. I've always wanted a Benelli. :)

Depends on the optic you decided on. I assume you're talking about a Picatinny rail section type mount which typically mount the optic high, I tend to prefer optic dedicated mounts that allow co-witness such as the Scalarworks SYNC mount.

My M3 does have a rail, but I think that Scalarworks mount is exactly what I'm looking for. I know you said no open emitters but they have an RMR on their home page. I'd really like to just grab another RMR and be done with it, battery hassle and all. Not a good idea?

Holosun isn't too bad, I REALLY like my AEMS, and micro dots for my carries. The one on my 43x has taken a beating. I have thrown it mounted on my glock many times, racked off of it constantly, just kinda generally been mean to it.

It's not a terrible option, I just vastly prefer a closed emitter on long guns especially. There are of course the issue of having to remove the RMR to replace the battery which I also find less than ideal. That said the Trijicon RMR is quality product and never a bad choice. Weigh the pros and cons, a top gun like the M3 deserves a top optic.
