Get out of my stomping grounds!!!!! JK@Cogs I do not think this place is really open; the main road is open yes but at least two pits I stopped at, have boulders blocking automobile access, and the side roads are all gated, at least up to the GPS coordinates shown on www.trashnoland.org
The larger of the two, there's no real easy access, you'd have to climb over the logs and boulders to access, or hike a long long long way around if the gated road actually leads to it

The smaller of the two pits, you have to park on the main road right next to the boulders, and then walk in, set up. It looks like it has been used recently, but I forgot my trash bags for cleanup.

I'm pretty sure that first one is the Weyerhaeuser property, like Tlock said, but when I saw it, it didn't have the blockade. I'm not familiar with the 2nd one. I'll check the GPS on TNL again and try to find out which ones are closed and which are open. But we're dealing with BLM, ya know. So don't hold your breath!@Cogs I do not think this place is really open; the main road is open yes but at least two pits I stopped at, have boulders blocking automobile access, and the side roads are all gated, at least up to the GPS coordinates shown on www.trashnoland.org

First gate, white with red reflective markers, no Weyerhauser signs or anything like I've seen on Gold Creek Road to the west of here; is the newest of the gates so far. Second gate, older, white, "NO SHOOTING" spray painted on it.Get out of my stomping grounds!!!!! JK
those first ones belong to weyco and are no shooting. Havnt been up that way in a few years but if you have onx it will show you the property lines
Have you tried monument peak out of gates? It could be close to fire danger tooI'm just trying to find alternatives to either going to a range or driving into Salem to get to the BC whatever pit. Since Gooseneck and Gold Creek roads are both closed for the fire season.....
That's when a pit comes in handy. As long as it doesn't have dry tinder and rocks to ricochet. But many pits have some good dirt or small gravel to use as a backstop. (The one in the Santiam SF is good for that. The BC615 pit.)With conditions out there im not even shooting on my property. To dry for me, id hate to burn my place up and have it spread off the mountain
It goes for miles up there, I dont shoot in the woods unless im killing something. Im racking my brain trying to remember......Interesting; to confirm, that large pit looks like it's at the end of a road?
The roads I took according to the Google Maps ....
Go onto Camp Morrison Road, then cross a creek with the Hannah Covered Bridge (State parking lot?) then go up several miles; then turn R on a single lane bridge with a large BLM yellow gate over a small creek; before the "rough road ahead" sign.
@Tlock does this road lead to the large pit somewhere further up?
Yep. That's the BLM Pit. Is it blocked or gate closed?View attachment 2138230

Edit I think I'm gonna need to download an actual GPS app.

So, is there a larger pit that's open further up the road,.or that's all that's there and it's functionally no go for ethical shooting? The pit at the 2 mile mark is gated. It is BLM. I have seen people walk up and shoot. It used to be open but too many issues up there between parties, illegal burning, tree cutting and dumping. Was a great place. The little pit at 2.3ish miles use to have a no shooting spray paint on the rocks but cant read it now. People are always shooting there. Just up the road is the Weyco pit on the right with the stumps and ditch. It is supposed to be no shooting. It is painted on the rocks by the Sheriff's office but gets painted over by profanity. The stumps and ditch are to keep the cars out. People still have fires and a lot of shooting. Have seen people get a tick there before. There are a couple of other areas up there to shoot. But please pick up the garbage. It gets really bad up there for some reason
