Now it's the climate!

Gov. Kate Brown has announced an agreement with leaders of the Oregon Legislature for bills to be considered at the special session she has called for Monday.
Brown said Democrat and Republican leaders have agreed on a proposal to reduce evictions over the winter and other measures.
"Oregonians facing potential eviction do not have time to wait — they need an immediate solution that keeps them in their homes. And, in the last year, people across Oregon have faced unprecedented challenges due to record heat and persistent drought conditions," Brown said in the Dec. 10 announcement.
"I'd like to thank the legislators from both sides of the aisle who have worked with me over the last several days to put together a package of policies and investments that meet the pressing needs of Oregonians."

According to the announcement, the session will include action on the following subjects:
• Housing: $215 million to prevent winter evictions and transition to long-term, locally-delivered eviction prevention services, as well as an extension of safe harbor protections for renters who have applied for rental assistance.

By all means don't wave the property taxes the owners of the place pays though. State will still expect that paid. Not to mention the mortgages, that of course is still to be paid by that magic money.
We had one stop paying rent after she refused to move after the 90-day notice was up. She got a free legal-aid attorney and it took another five months to get rid of her. The remodel on the duplex had to come to a halt because we were not allowed on her property. This will end up costing us about $50k in lost rent and expenses. They can legally stop paying rent once they apply for assistance, even though they have been paying up until that date. I hate democrats!

This again will come to bite a LOT of people in the butt. Many landlords are now of course going to be VERY careful who they rent to. The people who are laughing it up that they lived for free? This will be public record that they finally got evicted. So now when they go to rent something else and no one will touch them they will scream. Only thing I hope is that a LOT of the people who owned some rental property and got screwed voted for these clowns.

What's the weather got to do with it?

I love the way the bureaucrats have taken to calling government spending "investments." It must make what they are doing sound better to someone.

I posted a while back about my mother trying to evict some dirtbag from a rental. She did lawyer up, but of course lost because of the "pandemic" laws. Now she has to pay thousands for the dirtbag's lawyer apparently. I'm unsure of the details because I was so angry, and knew I couldn't do anything (legally), so I stopped asking.

All these greedy people are taking advantage of my mother, someone who has worked her whole life to do good for others, be kind, and not break the rules.

And all the other citizens who are also trying to make a living, working and being productive members of society are being bubblegumed over as well by these lazy people who live their lives making excuses and feeding off others.

This is a violation of the Fourth Amendment and likely others, including the Third if military personnel is involved. Unless the State reimburses the property owners they are not only illegally seizing the property, they are forcing the owners to pay mortgages, taxes, insurance and maintain the property.

Yep, but as with all laws, they mean what a black robe tells you they mean. So far many of them are fine with this. I hope maybe some more learned a lesson in who they vote for over this but at this point I'm not sure its not too late sadly.

Whats to stop property owners from "selling" these property to say, foreign business entities who own demolition companies and developers, and then letting these demo companies do the process? Edit

Or just simply abandon and legally find a way to abdictate payments n such?

They can fix that too with some legislation that shields renters previous rental history from landlords. It wouldn't surprise me. I would seriously be looking at selling if I was a landlord in todays world.

Even the new owners wouldn't be able to evict the tenants so they would have to sit on the property for who knows how long before they coud develop it. Because of that they would not likely want to buy except at a steep discount.

I hope this at least is pissing off enough people so they will pay attention the next time they vote.

Landlords are a minority in this country. If the squatters were allowed all these rights when they took over people's homes who left for the workday then you might finally see some people start voting.

Good point. Sneaky way may not be 100% legal but. "Lease paperwork", sign but its actually ownership transfer to the deadbeats, they now legally own property, and all the taxes and maintenance costs? Then now the deadbeats have to pay thecState and County and Feds.... what happens then?

The owner loses all the equity in the home?

I have a friend who is actually ENTERING the landlord business. Got several gov aid type apps for their properties, don't know who ended up signing paperwork. High risk/high reward kind of person

The virus was the excuse that deadbeats needed and the cover that government wanted to seize personal property.
Which they can legally do as soon as the non cash flow receiving owner fails to pay property taxes. They can also outright seize it for the betterment of the community in some cases without reimbursement. I don't think Fuhrer Brausn would flinch at outright seizure for the public good in order to provide "housing for the needy (AKA vote D forever). You have to know that even the landlords that make it through this intact won't vote D or any other Socialist party from this point onward, so no downside for pissing them off.
