I don't care what gun I had, I'm stay the F out of the woods where there may be some grizzlies

Not an option for us as we live in the woods. If the cards are played right, we'll live in the desert (wouldn't be the first time) by end of the year. Fortunately, no grizzlies in either. Black bear, are most certainly here. I've read they are in yonder dry area too, but cannot confirm at the present, at least personally.

I'd say a safe bet would be to have .44 mag at the very least for bear but I'd prefer .460mag or .500 Knew a fella who guided for griz in AK and all he carried was .500 S&W both in town and in the bush, said he'd used it before to stop an angry boar and I believe it. Those pack one heck of a wallop and better hope you have ear plugs in or your eardrums will ring for years.

I've been out in areas with grizzles and nothing other than one of muzzleloaders ...haven't had to play "Hugh Glass" , yet...
Over worry about "What if..." Won't stop me from enjoying what I do...Just take your your time and be smart about what you do or where you go.
And remember that nature is a big place...if you play dumb...you may end up as a small smelly part of a bear turd...But if I do meet my demise via bear...I hope to give him a bad case of indigestion...:D

As for using a .30-30 Carbine or a .44 Magnum Carbine...I think that either would work...I'd go with the .30-30 as I have more experience with that combination.
