Model 88 in .284

Hello,
I am looking to trade my model 88 in .284. I traded for it ten years ago and it has been sitting in my safe since. Previous owner was a deer hunter and was very successful with it. The gun is in fantastic shape. It does have two little dings by the trigger that you can see in the pictures. Not sure if the magazine is original. I would assume it is. Comes with the shoulder strap that has two rounds in it. Also comes with a box of 20 rounds. Has a really nice leupold 3x9 on it.
I am looking to trade for a really nice Ar15 set up. I would also be interested in 1911's, especially smith and Wesson. I love M&p guns too! Any combo of the above could work too. Feel free to shoot me an offer if you are interested. Must be able to meet in the Hillsboro area. I prefer A Cut Above pawn for transfer.

Ballistically is the .284 similar to the 7mm-08?

Looks like it based on Nosler's load data. I'd love a lever -08.

Honestly, I don't know. The gun has been a safe queen for the better part of a decade. I'm just looking to trade it for something more modern that I can use. Ar15, pistols, etc. I'm a M&p kinda guy in terms of taste, but I like Springfield and Glock too.

Think of it as a tad better than a 7mm-08 Ackley.
With today's bullets, it's a longer OAL. What might hold it back is a 1:10 twist.

I have its brother in a mod 100 284. Thinking, this one would look good next to it.

I think it is post 1964 because of the raised basket weaving. Not sure of exact year though. I don't think they were made to many years after 64 in .284.

Go here, select the model and enter the serial number. Should be very close in my experience.

And yes...unless it was restocked at some point, the basket weave is a post-64.

This site appears to claim it is a 1964.

FWIW...to my knowledge, the stock was really the only noticeable change in the pre vs post '64 model 88s.

jcloer1, Thank you for getting that to work! From my research, I would agree with you about the stock being the only difference. Personally, the post 1964 and up with the basket weave are much nicer looking than the pre's.

I prefer the cut checkering myself but that basket weave is certainly a unique look. I grew up hunting with a checkered version in 308 so my opinion is likely biased by nostalgia.
