Think of it as a tad better than a 7mm-08 Ackley.
With today's bullets, it's a longer OAL. What might hold it back is a 1:10 twist.

It's closer to 7mm-06 it has a greater case capacity. If you can see it, you can kill it. 139-140 gr8 bullets rock the 284 Win. Imho

If I am looking at my Winchester book right it was made in 1964. Hope that helps.

The .284 is pretty darn close to the 7mm express/280 rem in ballistics. A great round, and due to a lot of wildcats based on that case, you can still find brass. At least before the recent shortage.

A great gun and a great caliber that has gone unappreciated. I have a pre-64 88 in 308. I had a plan on doing a rebore to 358.

Yeah I was just thinking the same thing, it might get more of a look if it was just listed for sale, it is such a sweet rifle.
