I was thinking the same thing. Yes it can be a PITA to check it though the right way. Since he was trying to hide it he showed them he knew he was not doing it the correct way. Amazing that he thought that would work.

It was checked baggage, so why not do it right? Did he not know you can lock it in a case, declare it, and legally fly with it?

Unless he's a PP or it was stolen. Pretty sure even in NY, you can have SA .22s.

Checking it in not a big deal cleaning the PB out of all the nooks and cranny's maybe a bit tedious lol not to mention nut allergies !
