Its my understanding that all hearing aids cancel all noises above a certain decibel, ie: they wont amplify gunshots if you don't wear earpro when hunting.

I can only offer advice. Hearing protection as described above. I prefer custom HP from Soundgear out of MN. I'm a doc and provide silicone custom molded and custom electronic as well locally

I'm unsure if mine are noise canceling but that will not stop loud noise from entering the ear canal. Noise canceling isn't a substitute for ear protection. A hearing aid on mute will deaden the sound but nothing like hearing protection provides. You will still hear a gun shot report.

I wear Eargo hearing aids, ( From Costco) and they are about as good as your going to get, though for shooting, I still wear electronic ear muffs so I don't risk damaging the hearing aids! I haven't tried shooting with out the muffs on,, but can hear folks next to me just fine.

To clarify my comment, hearing aids are not hearing protection. Noise cancelling is not the same as protecting.

Any recommendations for hearing aids that you can use both hunting and at the range?
I may have misunderstood this, are you looking for hearing protection or hearing aids? There are no hearing aids that protect from noise. There are in ear hearing protection that also amplify sound, but these are not the same as hearing aids. They will not aid in hearing loss but they will amplify sound, all sound. There might be certain tones you need amplified but the trade off is they amplify all sounds so you get noise that cancels any benefit of turning up the volume. Hearing aids amplify only the tones you suffer loss from.

A couple of brands that offer in ear protection and sound amplification are Walker, and Axil.
