Memorial Day Flag Etiquette:

Half-Staff in the Morning

On this sacred holiday, flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon. This is in memory of the dead; the somber tradition represents the nation's mourning for the lives lost in military service.

Full-Staff After Noon

After 12 p.m., the flag should be raised to full-staff. This represents the resolve to continue the fight for freedom and uphold the sacrifices made by those who served.

Things to remember:

It's Not Veterans Day

Memorial Day is about honoring the fallen men and women who died in service to their country -- not just anyone. A lot of people will confuse the day, conflate the day or worse, forget the day.

The Moment of Silence
Every Memorial Day at 3 p.m. local time, whether you're at home, at a parade or in the middle of a speech, please take a moment to observe the National Moment of Remembrance. For just one full minute, Americans everywhere should pause to remember all the men and women who died in service to our country.

(Abridged from Military.com, several articles)

Enjoy the Holiday with friends & family. Just reflect a bit on why it exists...

I always hang my flag out from the front of the garage today. It was my Grandmothers flag that she would put out on such holidays. I think a LOT about the men and women that gave their time and lives in defense of our country and other's country's. I'm currently reading "D-Day" by Steven Ambrose. I'm 445 pages into 583 pages. It's extremely powerful. Words direct from the mouths of the men that were there/survived that day.
I figure I've got a pretty good grasp on what we have, and have had, here.

It disgusts me how so many people think today is just a holiday to grill burgers and drink beer while wearing a shirt that looks like it was made from a cut-up flag. I served in Operation Desert Storm, during the Gulf War, not to see someone pretend to be patriotic by disrespecting the flag in that manner.
And FFS stop saying "Happy Memorial Day"...
/rant.
