Bought 3 Coyote Brown Sustainment Pouches for real cheap... decided to fit 2 onto this pack... ends up looking like a modernized ARVN Rucksack lol:s0151: Running the lid straps behind the pouches sure cleans up the look. Now I am looking for a set of CB shoulder straps that are light and afforfable.
A single Sustainment pouch fits an USGI Poncho Liner, or the ECW parka with liner 20200622_135604.jpg 20200622_135608.jpg 20200622_135613.jpg 20200622_135620.jpg

Neat ruck for sure...I really dig the last two pictures...with the added pouches.
I'd love a ARVN style ruck for my use...well all it takes is money... :D
Andy
Do you build these to sell?
Depends on how much money people are willing to spend :) and in which colors... the place I got the sustainment pouches for a great price from, are now out of stock. So that leaves ACU, DCU, Multicam/OCP and Woodland camo, unless one wants to spend a lot more for the coyote.

I have been researching packs a lot lately, trying to find a good solution to wear one with armor. Its funny the highspeed guys finally got these nice mystery ranch packs based on backpacking. Lighter, more comfortable, etc, but they suck with armor!

So now they are going and buying upgraded modern Alice frame packs just like this from tactical tailor. I guess the alice is great due to the way the frame sits off your back. Clears those thick plates.

That really cracks me up. Its also amusing I don't think armor was a standard thing when the alice was fielded?

I have a heavily modified medium alice pack. Little old, little new, worth every penny I put in to it. That I did have the money to put in to in. Carried in the field and theater for 3 years. 15 years later, I cant let it go

Thanks for the consideration on selling @CamoDeafie ...
I would prefer a OD Greenish ruck...something close that shade anyways....
With that said...all it takes is money....Unfortunately for me money seems to be allergic to my wallet... :D
Andy
I've got tan 499, Ranger Green, and green Ranger green, and Camo 483 Green; as well as 500D and 1000D Woodland :) 20200626_075451.jpg 20200608_142412.jpg 20200511_153756.jpg 20200506_161055.jpg 20200511_153756.jpg 20200506_161055.jpg 20200606_143149.jpg

Alice was the standard in the Corps till the early 2000s. While many infantry units still allowed them in to the late 2000s. Special forces still use them to this day. Alice pack are tried and true since Vietnam. And yet flack jackets and kevlar were common, with ceramic plates being common in the late 90s

I HATE Molle, couldn't ever get it adjusted right, everything is set up vertically and that makes it impossible to fine tune the fit, especially if your hunched up or in close contact with the dirt, your never going to be comfortable with it! Plus, the velcro picks up EVERYTHING and you look like an Easter bunny with all that fuzz sticking out of everything, and the velcro doesn't last, by the time you finally get your battle rattle all adjusted up nice, it's practically worn out and then you get to start all over! We ended up taking out plate carriers or LBVs and removing all the attach points and re sewing them at angles and then attaching all the stuff, made it way better, but what a bunch of work!

I meant invented/first fielded, which was way before ceramic plates became a thing, but they still seem to be the best solution.

Luckily we used the ALICE system and a ton of Web Gear from the 60's and 70's...
( And the 80's - 90's versions of the same )
I still like the "Old School" items...and still use what gear I have , that "followed me home" from my Army days.

The USMC tried the ILBE internal frame... which was basically a heavier duty, military spec version of a hiking rucksack.. and the US Army tried the Field Pack, Large, Internal Frame backpack based on the Lowe Alpine's Vector Systems backpacks.. apparently the first contract had cotton thread for the main seams  Of course packs blew out at those seams, and being now nearly 30 year old, the duck foot strap attachment are brittle and prone to breakage  it is the pack known as the CFP90 pack commercially; and it was a failure. The MOLLE first gen ruck frames were a failure, the 2nd gen prone to cracking.. and the 3rd onward are better... the FILBE frame was developed from a frame made to fit ALICE packs. The 1609 Medium MOLLE frame is designed to fit over armor plates, and came with a belt that was about 4 inches wide, and seems pretty danged good.

@Ura-Ki there's a reason the SPEAR ELCS is still pretty popular :s0092:

I think its hilarious how now both the Army and Marines are using the DEI 1606 frame design for their packs, specifically the FILBE and the MOLLE 4000 Airborne Jumpable ruck, which looks like it'll take the ALICE frame just fine...

When we needed packs ( Very Rarely), we had to go with commercial made packs, and those had to be static lined for us to even think of using them! We tried a few and ended up running Kelty internal frame packs as they fit the best and were light enough while still having a metric ton of space and load range! We finally got them to make the packs for us in camo, of course it was woodland digital, but still,..............better then the bright colors they normally come in!
