EDITED, UPDATE at post #7

I loaded up a batch of .308 for my Remington 700P LTR about 20 years ago. I normally write my load data on the page in my reloading manual, but it is not there. The load for my 147 gr, "bulk" ammo is in there.

I have about 75 rounds of that original load left so I am sure I can take a round apart and verify the charge confirm the powder, I am 99% sure I used H380. What I do know is that the load grouped well. The bullets are 168gr Combined Technologies BT, and I just ordered 700 more to load.

In theory, since I do not have my load written down, it might be worth working up a new load, but I was also hopping to have all the round loaded while the weather still sucks....... If I was going to work up a new load I am debating on what powder to use. I will be using powder that I have on hand as I am trying to use up some of my stock. I have 8lbs of H380, but I also have about 30lbs of WC846 that needs to get used up.

Has anyone done a comparison of these 2 and had a clear winner? One reasons I am thinking about changing powder is the fact I have other rounds I need to load where the H380 would work but the WC846 would not.

If you know the original load is one of those two, it seems like a pretty simple process to pull one, identify, and weigh the charge. Go do that before diving into another rabbit hole, Alice.

I get good results with Varget and Hornady 168gr pills in the AR10. Berger bullets are also great. Varget has gotten expensive though. My bolt gun likes IMR4064.

My main consideration was that I have over 30lbs of a powder vs 8lbs of H380. I dont have a lot of use for the WC846 besides .308 and .223 and I have over 16lbs of powder for that.

I know there are lots of good powders, but I have enough H380, which is what I am sure I used before, and over 30lbs of WC846 so I will be using one of those.

I have loaded a lot of 147gr bullets using the WC846 with M1A's, FAL, AR-10 and an M60. This load is for my bolt gun though.

After going through all my stuff, looking at what I had and pulling down some of the loaded bullets I had after finding out I had 2 different load, I made some choices and tested them today.

I have just over 700 rounds of once fired LC87 brass prepped and ready to load. I decided to go with the WC 846 since I had so much of it on hand, and CCI 200 primers. After working a few loads, I found 42.5 gr of 846 gave me speeds averaging 2680 and the bolt works smooth.

The next step is to get it sighted in because I also decided to upgrade my glass since when I got the rifle all I could afford was a basic duplex reticle 4-14x40. I picked up a Swampfox Warhawk 5-25x56 with the MOA reticle in it with their great first responder discount. This will be my first FFP so I am interested to see if I like it.

It is nice to be able to test loads in the back yard.
