Hello,
This is an odd posting, it's kind of a shot in the dark. Haha, pun intended.
The gun in question was something of a family heirloom. My grandpa on my mom's side, a WW2 vet who served in the Marine Corps on Iwo Jima, was some kind of marshal in civilian life. I don't know the whole story, but he apparently carried this Colt .25 as a backup piece or something, at least according to my mom.
Long story short, it got pawned and lost track of because, I guess at the time, nobody who had possession of the pistol knew its sentimental value or who in the family had it first (it kind of got passed around).
Anyway, it's serial number is 168795, I'm pretty sure, making it manufactured in 1917. That's according to Colt's website.
I'd be a serious buyer if somebody on this forum happens, by some miracle, to have it in their safe. I know my mom would be tickled to see it back in the family. It was "her gun" for a while, back in the 1980s or so.
I won't say price is no object, because I'm not rich, lol. And a Colt .25 is only worth so much, even in sentimental dollars. But obviously I'll try to beat whatever price you think you'd sell it for.
Before anybody mentions it, sure, of course I've looked on gunbroker and places like that. I've seen some very close to our gun, but not quite. This is just uncovering every stone I can, as it were.
Thanks for looking.
