hey Barrel man tell me how I can be prepared and store 300#'s of rice to feed my family and keep it for years in one of your barrels with little or no maint!

I want to eat while i fight off the zombies!

300#'s of rice will take 1000#'s of water. Still, I'd be interested in how to seal a big barrel of rice for the method. 'rice again?.....ptoooie'

1 food grade 5 gallon bucket
1 5 gallon mylar bag
1 oxygen absorber
nitrogen gas in a tank with a hose
1 zip tie


put bag in bucket...fill bag with rice..throw in O2 absorber...stick hose into rice...gather mylar around hose..turn on tank..fill until bag starts to puff..remove hose...push out excesses n2 and twist bag closed...tie in knot and zip tie..seal lid....done...store in cool dry place...good for 10 years

yep any other grains...and flour, sugar, powdered drink mix, almost anything that is dry...storage times will vary tho

#10 tin cans are also great and they are better in alot of ways (smaller amounts and easier to move around)

I just got 2 cases of eggs from these guys....

Barrel man, two questions.

1) how long will rice from costco last in the original sack in your kitchen storage? I have some that is over a year old? and

2) where can you get mylar bags locally?

Make sure that the rice you are storing is White,Brown will go rancid in short order.
