Another one that would be interesting, but I don't know about the logistics would be recreating the rare Beretta 92SBW:

From what I've read, 27 were made for the LAPD. They are semi-automatic only, but use the Beretta 93R stock. If the stocks could be sourced, I can't imagine the machining work would be a yuge deal.

Thoughts?
I went down that road. Even had a genuine 93R stock. After conferring with a few FFL machinists we decided there was no feasible way to convert a 92FS or M9A1 to a semi auto SBR .

2 seconds to deploy and same amount of stabilization with a total cost of $150 (for all your full sized pistols).

Extremely neato. I was wondering why no alert, but likely because "Blem" listing is different than regular? At any rate, very tempting. Place in cart tempting. I'm not clear how plemmed plem is, but odds are I won't care.

I voted option 1 but personally I would, and did go 300 Blackout in a 6" barrel. You don't need to make is a folding stock and with a short buffer tube it would be the same size as the H&R Retro with a lot more punch. SIG makes a supersonic monolithic defense round made just for the similar Rattler and AAC (PSA) makes reasonably priced ammo for training. Not as inexpensive (if you can call any ammo prices that these days) as 9mm but still very doable.

BTW the Faxon 6" barrel has a super fast twist leaving the bullet spinning at 300,000 RPM based on what has been learned from the 500,000 RPM 8.6 Blackout barrels. The rotational energy does a lot of damage.

Leaning heavily towards vz61 antics on this one. Know the concept works, with a little more spunk cartridge wise, but not in any rush, really. Rather take my time these days and maximize fun, rather than just forge ahead. (Honestly, if anything, it is a race against time between when Oregon's idiot laws kick in / new ones landing and waiting until when we've successfully hit the escape pods from this disintegrating area. Both are stuttering forward in fits and starts. Sigh.)

Tangents, away:

A long time ago....in a land far , far away.....
I captured a vz61 and its owner.
The vz61 was fun to shoot...and I really wanted it to follow me home , so to speak....
However too many people were looking....so off it it went with the PW.

In any event...
I voted for the Reto H&R...those are fun to shoot as well
That said...I haven't shot one of those....but I have shot SBR Carbines like that before .

So, I kind of have a hankering to do another Form 1 build. A couple that come to mind are:

Option One: H&R Retro DOE in 9ₓ19㎜

Retro-neat. Runs on inexpensive ammo. Can be suppressed easily. SBRing it would just be Form 1 filing, engrave, buy a real stock. If I had my druthers, this would be the one. Alas, sold out, and no idea if ever returning.

Option Two: vz. 61 Pistol in 9ₓ17㎜

I already have one in 7.65ₓ17㎜SR Br / .32 ACP and it is, easily, one of my favorite carbines. (My better half really likes that one too.) SBRing would be Form 1, engrave, buy backplate and stock, and done. Easy to suppress. Is in stock right now, though if history is any guide, I need to move on it sooner rather than later; Czechpoint USA is notorious for guns and parts coming in in fits and starts from Europa.

A couple honorable / wacky mentions are DD projects (here and here) I'm considering, though the cost would be significantly more and the work on one is beyond my home gunsmithing abilities. (The USAS is almost certainly a no-go, for various factors. And I haven't really started beating the brush on builders who could make the .577 beast yet, so don't know if it is realistic or pie in the sky.)

Anywho, what say you on this freezing January afternoon?
The Retro DOE gets my vote just for the cool factor. A neat history behind it and I think one of the nicest looking SMGs (right up there with an MP5 in my opinion!)

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I just bought my first SBR a 9mm Zenith ZF-5, a MP5 clone with a 9" barrel. It's got an amazing history and retro cool factor. Packs more punch than a .32 or .380 and the ammo is cheaper, plus the rolling block action has very little recoil. I can't begin to tell you how much fun it is to shoot. it became my favorite the first time out.

Many would say standard sized mp5 9mm is probably the smoothest and most pleasant shooting experience there is. They are an absolute joy to shoot.
