now this is a first time - EVER
my neighbor rang our bell (a cow bell bolted to the door frame) to let me know her husband had blocked an intruder on our property
a person who said he was a building inspector was at my garage walking around
my neighbor pulled in behind him and blocked him on our private gravel road - county building inspectors have marked trucks with flashing roof lights
I asked him why he was here and he stated he was inspecting the new siding on our house and garage - but would not produce ID
about this time, the Hound pushed past and went foaming mouth ballistic
I told him he drove past 2 No trespassing signs, but he was more concerned with the Hound than me or my neighbor who had him blocked in
I told (not advised) the young man he was not welcome and if he didn't leave immediately, or I would let the Hound loose
didn't need a firearm, the sight of our 90 lbs Coon Hound straining at his collar (and he does a frightening mouth foam as do most Hounds) was enough to entice him to leave

I would have gotten his license plate and informed the police of the incident.

Great neighbor, btw.
we did take photos of his plate and emailed to Clark Co Sheriffs
they are just to undermanned and under funded to come out this far unless you have a dead body
that's why neighbors take care of each other

10 years ago when my neighbor to the North was cooking Meth, the Sheriffs would not come out after my wife dialed 911
they just asked he if she had a firearm and advised her to take any measure necessary to protect her home and children
luckily, his property was sold at bank auction and we have new neighbors

Yes, inform the sheriff. He was casing the joint. Now he knows to kill the Hound before he home invades you. PAX
I'm retired, the property is seldom left with no one home
but with all due respect, if someone kills a Farm Dog, they understand the Wrath of God will descend upon them
no rural jury will convict a man who shoots an intruder for killing his Farm Dog
I have this Mossberg Shockwave if anyone gets that INTENSE
did you know Federal makes 000 buck? 8 rnds of 38 special +P in one load
besides the Hound, we have 8 vicious attack geese
I've seen grown men run from our Geese
our big Male African is 16 years old and weighs in at 25 lbs

Not likely to actually happen, but you've shown your hand. You think a perp will confront you and harm your Hound while you're standing there? Like I said he cased the place if he's a career criminal, he knows the threat and likely knows that all rural folks are armed. That should be a no brainer. Geese are a great deterrent, they're hard to quell. PAX

Good to see you post again, been awhile. I've appreciated your posts over the years to keep me up-on, and thinking about, a more rural life. Glad everything is okay, besides this little disturbance. Someone going out and picking rural people for thieving their activities, either got big-balls or are just plain stoopid.

I've read anecdotal cases online where people say that their home owners insurance company sent out inspectors unannounced to check the roof, siding, defensive spaces for wildfires, etc. Could've been a case like that but I suspect the inspector would've been smart enough to identify themselves upon being boxed in by two residents and faced with becoming the chew toy of a 90lb dog.

I think your in Cowlitz County are you not ?

Just food for thought if you ever do have an incident where you have the perp at gunpoint make sure to not be holding it when or if they show up they will kill you first.

Geese make GREAT alarms. They were used for this centuries back. Shockwave makes a great "around the place" gun. I keep one with both OO and some less than ammo. They were a neat little idea.

I was attacked by a goose at a park once. It bit at my balls. Thankfully my pants were heavy denim and loose. The only way I'm getting near a goose again is during hunting season.

more visitors are concerned about the geese than the dog and the geese are alert 24/7
the intruder didn't get around to the front where the geese are before my neighbor stopped him
now the rains are in, we don't expect to many visitors, but the geese love the rain
