……….
"FAMAS is French for "bugle". The 5.56mm French FAMAS was developed in 1978, a year the comparably radical Steyr AUG. A bullpup design wherein the action resides behind the fire controls, the FAMAS was first introduced with the French forces as the F1"

"The FSMAS F1 was intended to use disposable aluminum 25-rnd magazines and featured a variety of polymer components later found to be inadequately robust. The F1 was also designed to use the steel cased French 5.56mm ammunition. The subsequent G2 was developed in 1994 to rectify many of the previous rifles shortcomings. The G2 accepted STANAG magazines and was slightly modified to use standard NATO 62 grain 5.56/45mm ammo. Both weapons employed a fascinating lever-delayed blow back action. "

"In the late 1980s Century International Arms imported about 100 semi auto FAMAS rifles for sale to American civilians. The 1989 import "assault weapons" ban ordered by George H.W. Bush ended importation not long after Century International began sales. On the rare circumstance that these guns can be found today, they frequently command prices of $35,000 or more."
…………..

Another interesting thing I read, M16A1 (AR10) was designed in 1956…? And the 5.56….(M16) a year later 1957….?

I didn't think they were that old.
