Pakistan is not Middle East. Nor is Afghanistan. Afghanistan is South West Asia, Pakistan is West Asia though it does share a border with Iran. Generally, Iran is considered the easternmost Middle Eastern country.

Some people consider a Greater Middle East to include Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Africa(all the way out to Morocco and Gibraltar Strait) in addition to the usual Middle East countries (Arabian peninsula, Levant, Egypt, Iraq/Iran, Turkey)
Yeah, I was sort of talking about the greater MENA region which in my head ends around the Indian Subcontinent, with the acknowledgement that Pakistan is on that border.

This has been simmering for as much of my adult life as I can remember.
Yes, I remember seeing maps of the Kashmir area marked, "disputed area" when I was in grade school, circa 1960. You'd think after all this time, some sort of solution would've been worked out. But that isn't the way of humanity, particularly when it comes to territorial claims. If you spend any time on Google Earth, you can see red lines all over the world that show disputed boundaries.

What hasn't been much noticed in the US are the areas in this region that have been usurped by China over the years. Because they could. Enforceability issues caused India and Pakistan to relinquish these areas. China has crept into other Indian border areas as well. These are basically uninhabited regions. But it illustrates how China will move into areas that it perceives to be "easy takes." Bloated claims in international waters of the South China Sea are another example. They take because it's easy. If they thought it would be easy, they'd establish a claim over international waters all the way to Hawaii.

Pakistan claims Chinese-made J-10C fighter jets used against India's air force

If involvement in downing of five Indian aircraft is confirmed, it would be the J-10C's first known air-to-air kill recorded in live combat

Interesting, I had a neighbor from Deli who referred to himself as a, "West Indian", not to be mistaken as a, "Western Indian".
