If you do more digging, you will find that the mother also posted pictures of M-66 firecracker's on her Facebook page. LEO's use of Facebook in court cases has come up several times.

I think there is a bit more to this case, than the really shoddy reporting in that article is letting saying.

Of course, since it went from FBI to police, I'm wondering if someone sent in a tip to some hotline.

A lot of people on this forum are going to say this is a cover story. But to be honest (as I said up above, having looked up these very terms) I figure this was more likely. Not to say the NSA isn't watching people who are looking up weird things. But this makes way more sense.
